Hi everyone,
My XMC 2 just started outputting a whine/crackling/ticking and sometimes loud hiss out of all channels (louder out of surround and heights). Sounds digital. I've updated the firmware, reset to defaults, tried just about everything. Anyone else experience this? Is it time for the XMC to take a trip to Franklin?
Thanks

Does the sound continue if the XMC-2 is muted?

Yes, but quieter (ticking and light hiss or sometimes louder hiss Then I would suspect amp channel(s). Ticking and hiss, sputtering, etc, are likely from capacitors going/gone bad. I had an amp that had one channel with a staticky hiss when it was in standby. It also did it when on, but in standby it was not supposed to be making sound. So if the sound continues when the processor is muted, the next step would be to disconnect the interconnects from processor to the amps and see if sound continues from amps to speakers.

Tested all the amplifiers separately and they are clean. Also tested using a powered studio monitor on the outputs. Sounds like a bad cap on the D/A board or something. definitely the processor

bummer. I guess you'll need to contact Emotiva about it.

I suspect you will hear distortion thru the EARPHONE jack as well. Chances are faulty component in the POWER Supply.

It's definitely time to contact support... and is probably going to end up with a trip in for service.
