Hi.
So i bought a XMC-2 some months ago and it plays nice, sounds good. But. I am super dissapointed in the surround sound stage or what ever it is called. In the old days i had NAD and onkyo and what i remember i could hear objects moving around the room from front to rear and so on. With the XMC-2 all i get is "music" and a little bit of distant dialog in the surround and surround back. There is absolutely no objects moving anywhere. I have tried bluray player, Nvidia Shield, ARC from the tv from hbo, Netflix and Disney. But i just cant get it right.. In the display it says Surround PCM 2.0 Is this correct? It tdpnt matter what source i am using or what media i have in the he source. It can be 5.1 7.1. Atmos. It is always the same.
So my question. Do i remember wrong? Is there only music in the surround Chanels?
What movie should i test with? Are my settings wrong? I have set it up with Dirac so the levels should be ok.
Anyone??

When you press the “Info” button on the remote during a movie or whatever, it should tell you what it’s getting/playing. If you don’t see things like dts HD or Dolby Digital, etc., then there’s an interface issue between your source and the XMC. Most likely your source isn’t configured to output correctly, but it could be the settings on each of the XMC’S HDMI inputs.

rbk123 is correct. Most common thing to check is PCM vs Bitstream and multi channel and 2 channel, and down mix schemes.

Very often when a film gets started here, I checked with the info button to be sure I’m getting what I signed on for lol. Important to wait till after the introductory logos that are often in a different format before the presentation of the actual film.

That's stereo and any surround would have to be upmixed by the processor and would do what you describe. You need to get something with the incoming bitstream indicated as some type of multi-channel.

Yes. Back in 2000 when i was working as a TC on Compaq support we got a new shipment of Presarios for the lab room. Me and the mentor installed them and then when everything was done i sat down on the chair next to one of the new Win 95 or was it ME maybe. Anyways i looked at the screen and it Bluescreened. The Mentor looked at me and asked what the f... I did. Nothing. He told me to move and we switched places. I looked at the other Presarios monitor and it Bluescreened. After the 3'rd time i got banned from the lab room for a week 🤣

Anyways back on topic
After some tinkering i got one of my sources to give me 5.1 though the material says Atmos and i think there should be more channels. I need to get me a Magnetar-Audio 4k player. Then i think my problems will be over.

I need to get me a Magnetar-Audio 4k player. Then i think my problems will be over. Was that from Netflix? I learned that my Roku Ultra wouldn't play Atmos properly and it turned out it was an older model that wasn't capable of playing Atmos. I upgraded the Roku Ultra and it fixed it. Even then, I had to fiddle with Roku settings to get it to play properly. As I was troubleshooting that, I learned other devices also tend to have issues w/Atmos Netflix. Mark

Maybe we can help you get each device working at its best, then you can decide if you need something new.

Klinemj: No i got it working with my Shield, so now at least i know the XMC-2 is working :-)
Audiohitt: My 50$ Bluray player is ooold and have given me problems in the past also so is time to change it, why not buy something decent :-) i mean i have a nice processor and it deserves a good source
i want something that plays most formats and is somewhat future proof. atleast for a couple of years.

Both Panasonic and Sony are nice, however if SACD is important to you, Panasonic doesn't play it.

And since I run two players in my system, that makes up for the Panasonic DP-UB-H20 that doesn’t.

I don't disagree, but when I wrote that you still hadn't worked out the settings, which were the crux of your issue. Now that's worked out, certainly upgrade your other gear as needed!
