Hey guys Sorry if this has been covered, did a search but didn't find anything. Just got a new xmc-2, I have an XMC-1 and used a Linksys adapter to connect but it isn't working anymore, what are you guys using to connect in a different room with no router close? Thanks

Thanks I literally relocated my router where it can reach my xmc-2 with cable. Connection doesn't always work. I think its because of XMC-2

The XMC-2 is in the basement and router in a back bedroom, thinking about running a long coaxial cable in order to get the router down there on top of the xmc and then use the LAN cable!

I have my home theater in my basement also. I ran an ethernet line down to the area and have a 5 port switch my all of my gear. The incoming line comes from my router and supplies the other ports...1 feeds the XMC-2, another feeds a Roku Ultra, another feeds a mini-PC that's my Roon core, and the last port is open. Works great. Parts Express sells long ethernet cables with the ends already attached...prices are very reasonable. Mark

Blue Jeans has excellent Ethernet cables at reasonable prices. I run a 55 foot cable from our computer room to the HT in the den. An eight port switch is at the den end. No problemo with the XMC-2 and six other devices.

Thanks By ‘ Linksys adapter’ do you mean a WiFi network extender with an Ethernet port that you’re connecting to the XMC-2? If so, have you tested other devices on that port to ensure it’s working properly? Another test would be inserting a small switch between the Linksys port and the XMC-2 port, there could possibly be better compatibility. Of course the wired solution others recommended is the best solution, but I understand that’s not always easy.

It is a dual band (WET610N) had to be 10 years old, the light in the front is blinking red, I've rebooted it with no luck, I used it with my XMC-1 and an Onkyo before that. So, there are no other plug and play devices for this application?

If you can’t or don’t want to run a cable, a WiFi extender should work for you., and I believe others in the Lounge have reported success with these. The demands from the XMC-1/2 Ethernet port are minimal, and it runs at FE/100 Mbps (though the G4P ‘+’ series will be 1Gbps). Here’s one, though there are many. bestbuy.com/site/tp-link-ac750-wi-fi-range-extender-white/6295317.p?skuId=6295317

So, I wasn’t recommending the extender to ‘extend’ your WiFi, but rather that it acts as a WiFi to wired bridge or media converter if you will. It should join your network just like your Roku does, and then make the network available on the Ethernet port, that you would connect to your XMC-2. Your problem is that you need a wired connection to your network, because none of the current processors have WiFi (thought the G4P will), this extender will give you a wired Ethernet port. Why do you say your router doesn’t support one?

You're talking about something like THIS: www.amazon.com/IOGEAR-Ethernet-2-WiFi-Universal-Wireless-GWU637/dp/B018YPWOREIt connects to your WiFi... And gives you an Ethernet port on the other end... It is basically "generic" and should work with ANY WiFi network or router... (unless there is some specific compatibility issue). We've used this sort of thing before... I'm not sure but I think it might have been this exact one... Ok, I wasn’t sure if the device had failed, it appears that’s the case. I recently got this one to extend my wifi to outside my garage (for a Blink camera), and it's got ethernet ports. It's worked great. Wifi Booster w/E-net Port

I'm pretty sure I've tried to do this before, looked up the router and it doesn't have an option to add an extender but I'm not computer savvy at all so I could definitely be mistaken.

Neither this, nor the device Keith references, will be configured at or by the router, they will join your network, and may require your phone or a desktop to configure them (since they don’t have a screen). In any case, either should work, and you should only need to know your WiFi password (and follow the directions).
