I have a pair of HiFiman HE-X4 planar-dynamic headphones. Their sound is spectacular! But the over-the-ear pads on the things have my ears sweating like a *bleep* in church after the first song. With the understanding that I'll lose some bass response, does anyone make an on-ear pair of replacement pads for these cans? I'd like some kind of like these: I'm willing to make this a DIY project if I must...

One thing I would keep in mind is that the headphones you have are somewhat heavy.
Those vintage Sennheiser headphones you showed were indeed very comfortable... But they also weighed almost nothing (which is part of why they were so comfortable)... You have to watch that, with a heavier headphone, not only will you lose bass... But a certain "minimum clamping force" is required if you don't want them to be continually sliding off your head.

Be aware that replacing the pads may make a significant change to the sound character of the headphones.
For example, if you look at various Grado threads, there is much discussion about changing the ear pads. The different Grado series each have their own model of pad, but they are interchangeable so there are lots of posts about those, plus there are pads made by other companies as well. Nearly all of the comments say that changing the pads made a big difference in the sound. So you might gain some comfort with lighter pads but the sound may wind up being completely different, better or worse to your liking.

Lots of 3rd party earpads to try. Keep in mind it may change the sound of your cans.

Replacing the pads on my Drop Sennheiser HD58X improved the comfort quite a bit, I went with the Hybrid pads that Drop sells, the ones for the Senn HD series are currently all sold out
