For those of us who use Roon as our music player:
1. When will these actually ship? - Looking online I see dates starting May 15 and ending (as of today 5/17/24) of "the end of June." Should anyone else have better information...
2. How many of these will be sold in the first shipping batch? - To the best of my knowledge, Roon hasn't released any sales figures yet. So there's no way to know if your order will ship with the first batch or later. Should anyone have better information...
3. What will be feasible with the Nucleus One? - What will be the real (not advertised) maximum library size? Do Roon's predictions assume an internal SSD library, or a NAS? If the former, will there be room in the device to accommodate a large-capacity 2.5" HDD, or will only SSDs fit internally? Should anyone have better information...
4. Will the Nucleus One have sufficient horsepower to run the Roon DSP functions? - Many Roon users rely on this. Should anyone have better information...
5. Will the Nucleus One run a version of ROCK? - I thought Roon was discontinuing support for ROCK. Is this so?
Etc. Thanks - Boom

Boom, why not a mac mini m2? Seems like a simpler, cheaper and more powerful solution....with alternative uses... I've got two Mac minis in the computer room already. Could I add a third in the living room equipment rack? Yes. Why didn't I? 1. Roon's support for OS-X has been suboptimal over the years. Sometimes Roon makes an update that breaks the function on Macs. Roon, in the past, has been slow to issue an update for their software that restores function. Windows machines get quick updates - Macs sometimes not so fast. 2. Sometimes Apple issues an update for OS-X that breaks Roon. Again, Roon's support for OS-X has been suboptimal (particularly when Apple broke the Roon software's function rather than Roon). And again, Windows update problems with Roon get addressed first. 3. Mac minis are not designed to run "headless" (without keyboards, video displays, or mice). One can get around this, but not as easily as Roon's Nucleus, that was designed from the ground up to be a headless device. 4. Is the Mac mini truly simpler, cheaper, and more powerful? The cheapest Mac mini is $600, while the Roon Nucleus One is 17% less. So NOT cheaper. Is the Mac mini really simpler? The Roon Nucleus is purpose-built for Roon and is plug and play. The Mac mini isn't. More powerful? Only if you're wanting to run other apps. If Roon is all you care about, I wouldn't call the Roon Nucleus any "less powerful." So, for my needs, I consider the Roon Nucleus One to be simpler, cheaper, and adequately powerful. But thanks for the suggestion! I appreciate it. Glenn

Bill, in addition to what Boom said, I'm not a fan of Roon staying resident on the Mac mini effectively getting in the way of other audio apps when not listening to music. It shows up most when wanting to use REW and other audio apps directly after listening to music.
None of what Boom says, nor what I referred to above, is a really big deal - each one considered alone, but, having a dedicated device that won't interfere with other operations that one may want to run concurrently can result in a better user experience.
I've got 3 minis with the newest one being an M2. With that said, I'm waiting for Boom to tell relate his experience for me to decide if I want a One as well. And it won't take much of a nudge for me to place the order.

As I understand it, Roon has run native for several years, no rosetta. I’ve had no bad experiences, but we may have different experiences.thanks for the thoughtful replies, guys.

I think you guys know my preference for running Roon... I've had it running as a docker on my NAS since 2019 / 2020. My NAS is on 24 / 7, my music is on my NAS, so it was an easy decision as I avoided the need to spend money on an another computer or system to run Core. To be honest, it's been rock solid thus far. It's currently running 2.0 build 1413.
