The eggs hatch in a few weeks, the little grubs drop to the ground, burrow in, and disappear until next time. It's the "little grubs" 'ya gotta watch out for!! They'll eat the paint off cars! During the 1990 cicada invasion I lived in a cute little cottage with no garage on a very large lot. Most of the lot was just trees, and very small yard with grass and lots of flowers. When they drop from the trees they expect to hit soil and burrow down into it. Well, if there's a car in the way they eat the paint like they did with one of my cars and ate 4 round holes through the paint. I saw the goo when it was fresh and didn't think it was what it was so I didn't wash it off. I was sorry the next day. |

It's over 100dB SPL ! This is probably the peak, right? Today is the hottest it's been so far and tonight will be warmer than it's been at night recently, so, who knows, maybe it can get louder?

We have a pizza franchise in Cincy called "Snappy Tomato Pizza". Years ago, when cicadas were "in bloom", someone made this variant of their commercial to the same tune as their jingle...but "Snappy Cicada Pizza" Enjoy! Snappy Cicada Pizza JingleMark |

No CICADAS…… but those nasty black caterpillars that took over my deck this past month have finally gone away.
Unless I enclose my porch, it’s generally unusable until about now through September but the spring forget it.
