Those of you who still are into vinyl, could you recommend a descent TT? I know, I know, many will say digital is where it’s at. I get it, I’ve got lots of digital media and streaming options I use all the time. However, I’ve also got lots of vinyl (especially MoFi) and I’d occasionally like to spin a record. I’ve been out of the TT game for quite awhile and even though I’ve been doing my own research, I’d like to hear some input from actual users. Budget, anywhere from 0 to about 2k. Front runner right now is the Technics SL-1500C. Thanks…

I think the SL-1200GR2 is a hi-end sweetspot. I use a SL-1210G - suits my needs and more; but a bit pricy. I still have an older Rega Planar 3 with a Grado Signature arm. The sound of both tables is good. The Technics is easier to use. Sound is variable based mostly on the mat and cartridge you use. I still have lots of vinyl. I wouldn't collect vinyl if I was just starting out. I'm not going to discard good vinyl recordings just because they are old. Enjoy.

Rega Planar P3. Buy once, cry once! I second the Rega Planar 3. I spent the extra money to also have their Rega Elys cartridge installed and aligned. They do offer higher quality cartridges, but I decided to start with the lower end cartridge. This is a manual turntable, so there is no semi-automatic tonearm lifting at the end of the record. I ended up purchasing a Tru-Lift tonearm lifter and it works great, it is very gentle with the tonearm. www.integrityhifi.ca/tru-lift

The real story is that my brother actually bought the lifter for himself…… Lol because I had a habit of letting the record run to the end and not picking the needle up for a while… Something that drove my brother absolutely nuts when we were still living at home. So as I say, he bought it for him. That being said for my manual AR xa turntable it was a nice Upgrade Or necessity I should say. No well-dressed turntable should be without one.

The technology is so incredibly limited by today’s standards. It would simply be throwing good money after bad.

Technics SL-1500C = Rugged construction + excellent performance + no fighting tonearms (removable head shell for easy cartridge installation) + the ability to keep multiple cartridges mounted in separate headshells for easy swapping + a WARRANTY! For the price, you'd be foolish to consider anything else. Rega may be OK for those who LIKE to sprain their necks (and eyes) trying to install cartridges one at a time, but the Technics makes such changes EASY. Technics is a serious no-brainer!

Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions. Still unsure but you’ve given me a few more things to look at and consider.

On the more budget friendly side, you can take a look at Fluance RT85, which also has an autostop feature.

Rega for me, spent more than I wanted to years ago and I’m thrilled I did. Rega RP6 back then but I suggest the P6 with an Exact II cartridge now. Never worried about upgrading. Fiddling with a different cartridge as suggested above? I’ve changed the cartridge once in 15 years. When you’re happy why would you buy multiple cartridges? Buy a good one from the start and listen to your albums. Yes, the Rega is a manual TT but also as mentioned, just get a lift from the start, great investment. Warranty? Sure it comes with one but I’ve never heard of anyone needing to avail themselves of it.
My two cents sir. Welcome back to spinning records.

I bet the Technics SL-1500C would be a great turntable. I have been using Technics turntables for many years. I currently have a SL1200 MK5 with a Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge and love it.
