So wanted to try out a tube preamp (pro-ject tube box s2) on my PT-100. Problem is inputs, I’m already using the CD input and the AUX input for my Eversolo streaming box so I’m wondering can I use the phono inputs or will that just activate the built in phono pre on the emotive?

The phono input is meant for a turntable. Pick up one of these and add it to the PT-100.... www.schiit.com/products/sysI have one and it works great.

Exactly. The PHONO inputs on the PT-1, and any of our other products that have them, are connected directly to an internal phono preamp. They are designed to accept the type of signal that comes from a Moving Coil or Moving Magnet cartridge. This is a very specific sort of low level audio signal. It requires both a lot of gain, and RIAA equalization, and are specifically designed to accept the signals output by phono cartridges. (A phono preamp typically applies between 20 dB and 60 dB of gain, and about 30 dB of EQ, as compared to a line level input.) These inputs CANNOT accept the line level signal that you would get at the OUTPUT of a phono preamp. The output of a phono preamp should be connected to a standard "line level" input... the same as the line level output of a streamer or CD player. NOTE that some modern turntables include a built-in phono preamp. These may offer a line level output, both line level and phono level outputs, or a single output which is switchable between those two. Some may also offer a digital USB or BlueTooth output... Make sure to choose or select the correct option and connect it to the correct type of input. So wanted to try out a tube preamp (pro-ject tube box s2) on my PT-100. Simple answer no. The Project phono stage is outputting line level. No can do on another phono input. You are flat out of line inputs I like Cawgijoe's idea it will work. Plug your current your streamer and project phono stage input 1 and 2, the SYS output to AUX of the PT-100. Done.

Thanks for the info, one more question on the Schiit SYS. I would assume I leave the volume control all the way up? Actually wish it didn’t have a volume control at all, don’t need that.

Kind of like an audio switch is all we are doing. Out of connections get sys or similar, just like if you are out of ethernet ports. Kind of.

The Schiit SYS made me think of the unmanaged switch like you're out of space. I really need to get out of IT.

How about THIS? Considered a 'premium' pre......which should put it in the top-tier.......and for a reasonable price. The hangup? Well.....You gotta put it together. Look thru the docs and see. Assembly of the board is easy..... Than some point-to-point wiring and FINIHED. www.tubes4hifi.com/SP14.htm
