We need to get a new TV. They no longer come with an RCA analog output that I run to my Pre Amp. They all seem to have optical audio output (digital). I see that there are many DACs that would convert the digital optical signal to analog RCA outputs. Can anyone recommend a good one?

Both are excellent suggestions. Certainly much better than the cheapos on Amazon. I have a SMSL SU-8s that I use on my stereo for hooking up my computer. I like it. Which do you like better? I'm leaning toward the Modi.

Emotiva's XDA-3 can do that and with a new TV using ARC you can use the ARC input of the XDA-3 for a full bandwidth signal. Of course, it can also use Toslink and Co-ax. You can then output via RCA or balanced.

geebo, that's a very upscale option with excellent flexibility but beyond what I want to spend to hook my TV to my stereo. Perhaps when I go to more of a standard HT system - in the next house.

I'm leaning toward the Modi. Another vote for the Schiit Modi+. No use spending a whole lot of money for sound from the TV, and the Modi+ has excellent reviews. I have the original Modi, an earlier version of the Modi+, and the Modi Multibit and they're all excellent.

I agree on the Modi too, but there are many solutions from SMSL and Topping and more if the XDA-3 is out of the budget. I have the SU-8s myself for some projects, and it does just fine. Small form factors are a big attraction where a full width component may not be required. Options, all about options.
