Pete Rose along with Johnny Bench were my baseball heroes growing up. My Dad was a recruitment officer for the Marine Corps in Cincinnati so he was always scoring tickets (Reds & Bengals). I saw MANY Reds games at both Crosley Field and Riverfront. I still have the ball and certificate from a caught ball at Crosley about a week before the Reds moved to Riverfront. I went back to Cincy a couple of years ago and attended a Reds game. Took the tour of the Great American Ballpark and found the landmarks where Crosley and Riverfront used to be. Growing up in Cincinnati was some of my fondest memories. I plan on going back for another game. Or two…
R.I.P. Mr. Rose

Charlie Hustle. Rest in Peace.
This man deserves to be in the hall. I’ll never forget those early 80’s Phillies teams with Rose. It was a great time to be a child loving baseball in Philadelphia.

There are many great ball players and then there are always a few that standout above all the rest for different reasons. Pete Rose was one of those standouts. He knew how to play baseball. What he did with the gambling was wrong. He was put up as a scapegoat. There have been and there still are so many "wrongs" in sports. You can decide what yours are. Many others in all different sports are in their HOF despite their "wrongs". Pete should be there too. His play was the bar that everyone else tried to get up to!!

Yep, everybody makes mistakes at some point in their life…… I heard all about what happened with him before he passed. The first thing I thought about was embodied in that picture at the beginning of this thread. All he ever wanted was to be the best player and the best team player that he could be And that’s how I remember him.

A couple pics from my Cincinnati trip. The first one (Riverfront 1st base) is in the entry of a restaurant while home plate is down in the lower parking garage. That one took a little while to find.
