Can the DMR-1 drive 4 ohm speakers or is it restricted to 8 ohm loads like most receivers are?
Thanks,
Mark.

I never had any problems with the Emotiva speakers which are 4 Ohms.

I was told no by tech department huh. I was feeling pretty good about it until you mentioned that Emotiva said no. I don't have a DMR but was contemplating trying to sell my Marantz and snag a DMR... Granted, my Marantz can't do 4 ohm either, but if the DMR could, it would be another incentive to make the move. Mark.

Yea i hear you. The tech-ie didn't leave his name. I emailed. These other 2 fellas seem pretty in tune to things so....... ? Pair it with the XPA-5 and you don't have to worry about it!!!! It has outputs to do just that. Bypass the internal 125 watt amps or use those for surrounds or side axis. Ah yes, side axis.

Good advice about using an Emotiva amp with the DMR-1. I used my DMR-1 as a processor only with the MPS-1 pulling amp duties and the result was spectacular!

Wait, doesn't the DMR essentially have the same amp section as an IPS? (just a smaller transformer)
It really shouldn't have an issue at 4 ohms.

I have 8 ohm speakers at the moment and would be pairing it up with an amp anyway. I just like to have a receiver around for those times when you have your pre/pro go down on you and/or your amp. Knowing that I could use it on 4 ohm loads would be a nice bonus for either using it in another room with harder to drive speakers or when i upgrade the Paradigms to something nicer... Mark.

Lonnie has previously posted/said DMR will handle 4 ohms-no problem.

i've had my DMR-1 for about 18 months, and it's been driving a pair of Totem Model-1's with no problem.

I was driving 4 ohm Onix tower Ref 3 w/o a blink. I will say I preferred the sound with an amp XPA-2 or UPA-2, but the DMR was more than capable at reasonable and normal volumes for listening sessions or HT duty.

From emotiva ... First of all thank you for your interest in Emotiva. The DMR was not designed to drive a 4 ohm speaker which is why you cannot find the specs anywhere. At 8 ohms the DMR could deliver 125 watts x 7 channels. I hope this helps and please let me know if you have any other questions.
Best Regards,
Emotiva Support

Wait, doesn't the DMR essentially have the same amp section as an IPS? (just a smaller transformer) It really shouldn't have an issue at 4 ohms. DMR was Class D amplification, IPS-1 and MPS-1 had similar amps if I recall, with the IPS-1 being a junior MPS-1. It was also a fixed number of channels, not configurable like the MPS-1. MPS-2 was the same as the MPS-1 with a different face similar to RPA-1/RPA-2 getting a modified front. Doug

Absolutely no comparison between the internal amps of the DMR-1 to those in the MPS-1/IPS-1 of which I have owned both of at one time or another. The MPS-1/IPS-1 are in another league all together and are a Class H design in a monoblock fashion, while the DMR-1 if I recall correctly is based on a Class D digital amp design.
Regardless, I have had the DMR-1 running 4 Ohm speakers for years now with no issues whatsoever and have no complaints about the sound it produces.
