Took delivery of my XPA-5 Tuesday! Must echo many previous postings extolling the virtues of Emotiva's customer service, double boxing and exceptional response time. A nod to Fed Ex as well. Will enjoy the holiday weekend by negotiating the beast into it's station and prepping for it's audition. I absolutely did not truly appreciate the difference in build quality until I carried it in from the driveway ;D The Pioneer Elite unit it will replace felt almost disappointingly meager when I removed it. Heft does not automatically equate with quality, but damn! Can't wait to HEAR the difference!

Congrats on the purchase and let us know your impressions. I keep saying that I am going to post my first impressions of the XPA5 but haven't done it yet. What a treat for a holiday weekend as well! Have fun and don't hurt your back!

Infinity, give us a quick review of the XPA-5. Do you hear more details? is it more dynamic? etc.

The Pioneer Elite unit it will replace felt almost disappointingly meager when I removed it. Like you, this replaced my Elite unit (was using the Elite for processing until I replaced it with a used LMC-1). I always felt the Elite unit felt built pretty solid... until I grabbed this thing. Night and day difference. What's funny - the Elite was used for processing, and the Emo for power. My Elite got hotter (with the amps turned off!) than the Emo did! Just found that funny... Congrats on the purchase - I'm confident you will be as pleased as I was with the difference. Fuller, richer sound... better peaks.

bfisher, yes, the Pioneer will perform processing duties until the UMC-1 becomes available. I have noted in the past that the Pioneer does radiate quite a bit of heat. One would think that with the output amp section disconnected the ambient temps would diminish. Hmmmm? I'm using Mirage OM-9's and OM-14's with a few years on them and looking forward to detecting the difference. Got a baby due in 2 months or so, would like to upgrade to the ERT-8.3's but I've got a feeling the wife will tell me to turn the damn things down a lot. I'll break the boy in properly with a variety my favorites

Glad you got one. Hell of an amp, regardless of price. I recently sold the two I had, and am ready to get another one soon, maybe.

Thanks Gentlemen, enjoyed the few days I had between duties to Uncle Sam with the new XPA-5. A few trigger hiccups until I negotiated the GUI of the pioneer elite. Have not had a real opportunity to evaluate the performance improvement....Yet! Had to reposition the 200 disc Sony CD and sacrifice it's position for the amp. When I put the CD player on the shelf above the amp and attempted to reach 'reference' levels while the wife was out, I noted a disturbing amount of skipping in the playback. Unsure if this was a fluke of random song selection or lack of vibration damping. Will try to convince the wife that an ERC-1 is the only solution ! I'll attempt to recreate the conditions and eliminate variables. What a hobby! Hope the neighbors don't complain;)

Your amp section in the AVR will still be powered up, running at its minimum power.
