I very much appreciate the official update on the UMC-1.
The only potential drawback of the announcement is that expectations will be raised and if glitches are found, people will begin to wonder.
The other question is: Has there been a lock-down on feature set? If the attempt is to compete with all the more recent pre-amp/processors, then the wait may become interminable.

hobbs has a couple of good points. This is a competitive business out there in the Pre Pro arena. Lord knows I have seen my fair share of "innovative" and "cutting edge" Pre Pros out there (and very expensive too...with bugs thrown for free, intentional or not) when I was selling High End A/V. I think the difference is, is that the UMC-1 as of my viewing and hearing at Emofest was everything anyone could want and more, and Emotiva has thrown in some other things I haven't at least have thought of or seen.
So I don't know if Emotiva at this point as we say in the Tech arena say, has to "jump the shark" or be ahead necessarily of anyone else, because just in features, construction, quality of sound, and all, the UMC-1 is there. Now the area where the UMC-1 does "jump the shark", 2 actually is in price, and ready out the box performance and quality with no additional need from the end user.
That is a tall order. When has an operating system on computers never needed a software update, or when being created need a complete redo before it goes "Golden Master" or "RTM"...Ready To Master? That is not to say that the UMC-1 won't ever never need a firmware updates or even possibly hardware updates. But when they do,these most likely will result in the moving target of standards for HDMI etc., and Emotiva will do those right too.
The much anticipated UMC-1 I think is very well deserved, and I can't wait to buy one too, but I can take solace knowing when I do, it will work right, and that the support will be second to none, and soup to nuts the best Pre Pro I can get for so little investment.
I am hoping for a very UMC-1 Christmas.

I think theres something else thats wrong.. See, the Outlaw 997 has been ready for some time, but has been postponed due to the delay of the Sherwood 972. Now that it is shipping in oct, the 997 is ready to ship by christmas.
If Emotiva has the same issues, then it will be a long wait..
Allthough i'm thankfull for the update, i can't get it out of my head that the recent recievers have implemented some serious signalprocessing - fx. the TI dual chips for audiodecoding. How will the UMC-1 fare with all those new featuresets being the norm now?

I spoke to Lonnie today about an issue I'm having with my XPA-5 and let's just say this company has just won me over for life. These guys (and ladies) just amaze me with their will to make their customers happy.
The reason I mention it is because I respect that they are being honest with the UMC-1 (even if it is not the greatest news) and that just wins my respect even more. They could have not said anything and kept people guessing for another few months but they gave us some news once they had something solid to give us.
Well done Emotiva peeps and keep doing the great work you do.

HDMI never worked right. Handshake problems and the like. It's curious. I have 4 products wired together with HDMI. Zero problems. And they are all from different HDMI eras. One is almost exactly 1 year old right now, another is something like 5.5 years old. Guess somebody's able to use it.

I think he was referring the numerous receivers that did have problems. Maybe some in the Onkyo line??? I have had no problems either, but I recall many did/do.

I agree. Nice post Vincedog. Reminds me of all the flack I took from friends and fellow forum members (not here) for not jumping on the first or second or even third generation of Blu-Ray players. I kept saying I was going to wait until someone did it right and for a great price. Oppo didn't rush a player onto the market. They waited until they got it right. I now own the Oppo BDP-83. Over a dozen rave reviews proved me right. I also got flack for several years for not having a 1080p display. I patiently waited until someone did it right at the right price. A year ago I finally bought a 1080p 50" Panny plasma for a great price. The PQ is superb. I need a phono preamp and several other added features and will buy the XMC-1 when it is released. I'm very confident the wait will be well worth it. ;D

Yes, great post Vince.I do appreciate the communication from Emotiva, and wanting to maintain a level of quality similar to their other products. That being said, because of the further delay I am glad I decided not to wait and go with something else.

I also have issues with your user name.

I also have issues with your user name. "a" is the normal suffix for "anim" while "o" is the abnormal suffux.

I'm not sure I agree with all this. Let's use BD players as an example. Mine has all the features I want, I waited for that. But as far as bugs or incompatibility issues, they can update the firmware for those. And they have. And guess what, it can be done automatically, just like Windows or other computer software. All I have to do is turn it on and let it go.
So......why can't a receiver behave this way? (or a prepro) What's magic about them that says firmware upgrades or corrections can't be easy.
Give me a prepro with all the features I want, get it out the flippin' door, and any corrections could be EASY. If the firmware upgrade process is done properly. This would be an advanced processor in my mind, forget the latest schlock from Dolby, there's always a new version of that to be had.

I prefer all as many bugs as possible get worked out in advance. I get annoyed by the constant Windows updates (some of which create other issues). And, with recent service on my Honda Civic Hybrid, they noticed there were "software updates" available and installed them. My MPG went down 2 MPG instantly! So, better right the first time for me.
Besides, in this line of thought, we're presuming there's a bug that is software related. If there is a bug, maybe it's hardware related...who knows?
