How about height? I was thinking of mounting mine to some sort of speaker stand... (We plan on selling in the near future...) I believe the general feeling is they are less height sensitive and are generally placed higher on the wall, above listening position. However, if you have them at ear height - it shouldn't be an issue as long as you have some room between your ear and the speaker Actually, for best effect, they should be worn around the neck. Just kidding.

Some of the people who tried the ERD-1 speakers at various heights, while mounted against the wall, stated that they thought they got the best results with the speakers about 6 feet above the floor. I assume they meant the tweeters were 6 feet up. Don't be afraid the experiment with alternate placements.

for you guys using the ERD's, do you mount them to the rear wall or side wall behind the listening position ? For 5.1, placement to the side of the listening position is recommended. For 7.1, you would add 2 more to the rear wall. Here's my setup. By the way, my door is always open to a fellow Emophile and Cowboys fan. Gimme a shout anytime. Nice setup Animo. By the way I can understand the fishing poles as a decorative touch, but why did you put that toilet plunger on a pedestal (right side of the picture) ;D

I am thinking of getting a pair of those ERD-1, but I can't see if there is a recess between the speaker mount for the cables and banana plugs.
What is the depth of the recess if there is one? If anyone has a clear picture of the speaker with the mounting plate attached, I would be interested to see it.
Thanks.

Plunger on a pedestal....it is a major award, like in "Christmas Story".

There is very little clearance, to use bananas you will need a recess/hole in the wall. Bare wire works fine.

finally mounted my erd-1s How do you have the ERDs setup? Do you have the sides as Dipole and the rears as Bipole? Or did you make them all the same? (bipole or dipole?)

Very interesting method of mounting them. Did you use LCD ceiling mounts or make them yourself?

No way you an mount the BS ones further back? Or is there WAF at play? waf was not at play, if i could, i would have mounted it on my back wall which was another 10 ft back or around, but i have joists that run parallel to my projector screen, and that would mean drilling through around 8 joists or more, if this were new construction, i would not hesitate. thinking of it, i could have probably moved it another joist back, but the area right behind the "theatre" area is a small lounging area with some antiques that i did not want the speakers hanging over on.

There is always some compromise when not in a custom room, I have similar problems in my current room too.

Hi there, I'm just about to mount some ERD-1s to a wall that is just behind the seating position and I was wondering if there is an optimal distance from the corner that they should be placed. I was thinking of mounting them quite close to the corner (30-40cm)but I'm concerned that I may get some distortion if they are that close. Thanks

Thanks Recommendations for Surround Back speakers is to position them at 150 degrees off your front center line. Note that your Main Fronts are at 30 degrees (in a perfect setup) from center. So basically this puts your surround backs at an equal distance from left and right of the room as your main speakers/fronts. Not sure what your room dimensions look like and where you have your front stage positioned... but I would NOT put the Surround backs that close to the side wall. Depending upon the height and separation distance you will most likely run them as BiPole (non-inverted). It sure sounds like reflections of that side wall could be a problem. Could you move them closer together? And if so, what kind of distance between them would you have? How far apart are your mains?

Thanks for the reply, (That picture was an example and is not my own setup, just looks similar in application) My mains are ~1.8m apart and the room is about 3.5m from front to back. I just had a go at mounting the ERDs using the existing studs, the speaker in the corner is 45cm away from the corner and they are about 1.4m apart. At present I have no centre channel but I hope to fix that soon, I'll try get a picture to give you a better idea of the layout. At the present I have just mounted the ERDs on the wall but in order to get the speaker cable there I'm going to have to lift off a section of the roof Thanks
