I was thinking of getting another pair of 8.3's to parallel with my existing side by side, in other words, just doubling up.
Do you guys think the improvement (if any) would be substantial or even worth doing?
I was just wondering if it would be worth doing or not....
thanks

I've seen a similar question on another thread. The general consensus was that it wasn't a good idea. I'm no expert by any means but I think panning across the front soundstage would cause problems. Think about what happens if you would use two center channels side by side. Do a quick search for comb filtering to get an idea of the drawbacks. Maybe if you had a huge room or stacked them, but otherwise I don't think it would be worth the cost and effort. Someone please correct me if I'm way off base.

Thanks Oppman99, yeah I read that thread about the center channel being bad idea. Since the sale is going on I just figgered it might be a good idea. The money is not the issue, I just thought if 2 sound this good, 4 would be better. I was just looking for more input before taking the plunge. I know the amp can handle no prob......

I'd have to say it's not a very good idea, unless you're much more concerned with volume than clarity. Imaging would be thrown out of whack, and you'd probably have an uneven mid & treble.
I believe that, overall, sound quality would be worse.

You could get another pair and use them as surrounds I guess. I'm pretty sure someone here was doing that. Then if you listen to 5 channel stereo (or equivalent) you could have some serious spl.

I already have the 4 surrounds. (see sig)
thanks Scott. I guess I will just keep what I have. I am very pleased with it so far.

I was thinking of getting another pair of 8.3's to parallel with my existing side by side, in other words, just doubling up. Ray, this is a really bad idea! (really bad ;D) There would be only one way they might sound decent and that is if you stack them on top of one another (inverted). That would be with the one on top upside down. Oh no, let's not go thru that nonsense again (any one remember the greatest speaker selling scam of all time??? ..... Double Adverbs). The best way (and it's free) to improve the performance of your Emo speakers is to make sure you have them properly placed in your room. You can't believe how many folks buy a great speaker and then have it stuffed in a corner or against the wall or against a cabinet, etc. If your room allows make sure you have all three front speakers in gentle arc equidistant from your center seating position and away form any furniture, cabinets or boundaries. Many times it helps if they are toed in slightly. The other obvious improvement might be an upgrade to the Emo XPA-1 as your budget allows. The UPA-7 is a great amp but the XPA-1 would be an improvement if you need balls out volume for movies and MC music. ;D

An option for 2 more 8.3s would be for the centre and back surround in a 6.1 system I suppose.

I agree with the panel here. I was the yahoo who tried the dual center channels and I would bet you would experience similar problems.

For multichannel music sa-cd/dvd-a - 4x 8.3 would be awesome -like what I have with my Klipsch (see sig) multichannel music sounds fantastic and I wouldn`t have it any other way , 2x8.3 for mains and 2x8.3 for surrounds you will be amazed how much better multichannel music is doing it this way
