Well all got the XPA -5 installed today and man what a beast that thing is.
A litle bit about my older systems is needed to explain my comments, My original system was seperates consisting of Infinity IRS-IIIB, Perrauex SA-2 pre amp and an SA-250 dual mono block amp rated at 250 watt per channel driving the lower section of the Infinitiy's and a Counterpoint Tube driving speakers driving the top section, a luxman turntable with a grace tone arm and and original Marantz CD player, this system would rock your world but was lost in a bad divorice. fast forward a few years and this system was replaced with a SONY ES 777 rated at I believe 125 watts per channel in 5.1 surround driving a small set of B&K 305's using rear and center channel from cambridge sound works, adiquate but sounded good, about a year ago I finally got the new wife to allow me to upgrade the system a bit at a time and purchased a set of Martim Logan source speakers to allow me to move the B&K's to the rear channel and added a sub woofer to the system this improved the sound about 5 fold in my opinion, but wait, she recently asked what I wanted for XMAS and I told her I wanted to replace the 10 year old Sony with a new pre/pro and amp she asked what that would invole money wise and I told her about $2000. she thought for a few minutes and said since I had just worked 28 days of over time to go ahead and get what I wanted, HOW COOL IS THAT, so I did my researce and found Emotiva, ordered the XPA-5 and put myself on the preorder for the UMC-1 (which I can't wait for) Hooked up the XPA and crank up some of her music to see if she was going to be impressed and you should have see her mouth drop open, she was amazed at the sound difference it made on the M-L, instead of being overly bright like the Sony the sounds were pure and open at almost unbelieveable levels. I wish I could compare it to the old system but that is not in the cards, I do know that the build quality of the XPA and the old Perraeux are both on the high end of the scale considering the Perreaux cost almot 3 times as much and was basicly hand built the XPA is in the same league, I have not really had a chance to use the system for movies yet and really want to wait till the UMC-1 showes up to see how much difference this will make over the Sony I am currently using as the pre/pro, this is one hell of a deal for this quality of Amp and I will spread the word as much as possible concerning Emotiva.
On a side note Cathy at Emotive gave me back some of my money after the XPA went on sale How COOL IS THAT for Service
