I have had the player only a few days but the sound is scratchy, not clear. I have tried numerous CD"s and all have that problem. It is connected through RCA cables. Any thoughts how to clear this problem up?!

If you connect the analog out to analog in of a receiver that converts to digital domain for processing, the output from ERC-1 has higher voltages than most other players so it can result in scratchy clipping/saturation artifact at the ADC/DAC. Use a direct-through analog pathway connection and bypass the converters.

Instead of a DVD connection use the cd inputs I will try it.

no, no, you need a "direct" connection. Unless the "CD" connection is really a direct pathway that bypasses ADC/DAC, you will get the same problem.

I have mine hooked up to the CD input via RCA's, then set my receiver to "source direct", which bypasses all processing in the receiver. Definitely the best way to do it IMO.

I have my eRC-1 hooked up to the passive input of a McCormack TLC-1 preamp. Everything sounds great. They pop up on audiogon or ebay every now and then. JD

Well, finally got my ERC-1 up and running. Popped in a few Reference Recordings as well as a few of my older CD's and to say the least i am very impressed. My NHT's have never sounded better..really going to enjoy this. I always thought CD's never sounded as good as vinyl, I was wrong..... What a difference a good source makes.
