ive had this unit for about 5-6 months now, and have been very happy with what i been hearing. but this morning i plugged the r&l audio cables into the 8 channel input on my sunfire tg-3 and the sound seemed better . is this the way it should be hooked up? or can it be hooked up to the cd input and still benefit from the internal dacs of the erc-1.

You'll want to use the 7.1 analogue input of your Sunfire to receive the best sound from your system.

I have a configuration diagram on the ERC that you could review on - ERC-1 Review with Configuration diagram for 7.1I do not use this configuration anymore as I bought the USP-1 and have a new configuration diagram now that is here - ERC-1 USP-1 XPA 3 configuration diagramI hope this will help you!

Typically the 8 channel inputs on a pre/pro bypass any of the internal workings of the unit. This way you are getting the most direct signal from your ERC-1 to your amp and speakers.

thanks everybody for your input. the sound i got through the 8 channel input was spine tingling, i listened to sara from fleetwood mac g h, and katharine mcphee over the rainbow for some vocals, and got goose bumps. even though there is no sub out hooked up this way the sound is sweet ;D

This is the longest two weeks you will ever have to wait on something. lol It will be quite rewarding once you get to fire it up. To the best of my Knowledge, to get true analog input with the MMC-1 you will have to use the 7.1 connectors. The MMC-1 has a very good sounding analog circuit, but you may want to try listening to the ERC-1 using both the normal CD input and the 7.1 inputs. Then you will know if the difference in sound quality is worth being concerned about with your MMC-1. ;D

Thanks RR. Yeah...long 2 weeks thats for sure! ( got me some Reference Recorded HDCD's as a stocking stuffer too ) I am hoping I can get "true analog" thru the CD input, we shall see. I have my 7.1 inputs occupied with analog outs from my Toshiba HDDVD to get the TrueHD sound tracks ( not a huge difference to me ). Gladly sacrifice that to have my ERC-1 set up properly......cant wait... feel like a kid. ha.

I'm using the left channel of my extra set to run an Epik Conquest and it sounds great. It doesn't hurt that the Conquest has it's own crossover.
