I would actually prefer the satin finish of the other speakers to veneer too. Please, oh please, use the satin finish on the ERS models. Yes, the ERS subs will still have the satin finish. This is all too odd...we've seriously heard people complain about the satin finish for over a year now...

Dann, can you post dimensions for the subs?

Now if I could remove the HSU badge from the grill without damage...

Dann
I am sure that it just the lighting, but my first glance at the Ultra series sub picture reminded my of weathered plywood that got wet and started to buckle. The surface looked uneven more than being a wood grain laminate. I had to look a second and third time to realize it was an optical illusion. I don't know enough about photography lighting to know, but is there a way to modify the lighting to provide a more appealing photo of the finish.

Fascinating.

These of course are the Ultra series, the budget line. The other subs are still in the works. I think they look good...they sound great, for sure. Hello Dann G., I was just wondering if these ultra subs are like a 50 to 70 lb heavyweight or a 30 to 38 pound lightweight?

Well we want the satin "elegant" look for the ERS please, so ask Dan L. to give us that. <G> I feel another poll coming on ... ;D That's what those little blue pills will do for you.

Typical In-Room SPL: USub10: 107-110db Usub12: 109-112db Damn! I guess I'll have to look elsewhere. I need something that'll do 70-90db. That is just too loud for me!!! ;D ;D ;D

So, Dann, does Emotiva really have their finger on the pulse of the customer or do they just build what they think will sell? I know I was never asked. How do I get on the committee? I have experience in New Product Design for a large medical company based in Chicago. I'm currently transitioning into retirement, I'd love the opportunity to help out and give my opinions.

All I can say is that we are introducing an 'Ultra' line all over, and will be reinforcing the 'X' series as well, and possibly a Reference level as well. Two or three tiers.
Everyone has an opinon, and we do our best to pay attention, but sometimes, the most vocal critic's opinions do not translate to sales. It's a constant learning process.
Also, here's a big lesson...for over a year, we've heard complaints about how ugly and bland our speakers are...now, we're hearing they're beautiful and the new subs are ugly...it's a relative thing, and taking it all to heart in a big way may not be an accurate reflection of the 'pulse' of the customer. My sub is under a desk in the corner of a room. No one has ever come to my place, got down on their knees and discussed the visual aesthetics of my sub. They just say things sound good. That said, I think our new subs look good, and I plan to have one soon.
Oh, yeah...they sound great, too. ;D

Medical, yes. You guys have it easy. You can do anything you want. We had all kinds of corporate regs and constant training with the FDA always looking over our shoulder.

Dann, Don't pay too much attention to the crowd here. Regarding all subs, there is a huge bias to big box, big beast subs. The fact that you went non ported and reasonably sized probably targets a bigger less vocal market.
I mean no offense to anyone but sometimes ya gotta do what feels right.
Best of luck to yah!

Dann posted "'Fascinating' was not sarcastic, just surprise...I was proud of the definition in the photo...ha. "
Dann when I said "I don't know enough about photography lighting to know, but is there a way to modify the lighting to provide a more appealing photo of the finish." I did not mean to criticize your skills with the camera. I think you do very exceptional work photographing all the gear Emotiva has. I am sure that your photograph of the Ultra sub looks quite exceptional at full resolution. I was only attempting to explain why I thought so many negative comments had been made about the Ultra's appearance.
Personally, I don't care if a sub woofer is pretty or not. I only care how it sounds; and I would never have posted my comments but to let you know of a possible reason for the reactions you were getting toward the new finish. I assume the resolution of the photo you posted in the Lounge is much lower than the original. My purpose was not to complain nor to say I did not like the wood-grain look.
As I mentioned, photography is not my strong suite. When I first saw your photo it struck me the reduced resolution needed for posting to this forum was making it difficult to appreciate what the new subs really look like. I have an old 4 megacpixel digital camera that is alway used in the Auto everything mode; and, I have noticed if I reduce the resolution to send it in an e-mail it can make viewing the photo far less appealing than my original. That is what I was trying to convey in my post.
There may be several ways to make the results more appealing for use in the Lounge. I just don't know what any of them are, other than posting it at full resolution or providing a link to see it at full resolution. You have good reason to be proud of your camera work. My awkward attempt to offer an explanation of people's remarks appears to have failed. I may have bruised your pride instead... sorry.
For what it is worth, I always liked the satin black finish of the ERM/ERT speakers and have repeatedly posted how beautiful I think they are dozens of times over the past year or so. ;D

Miscellaneous first thoughts:
.....The black squared corner veneer oak look is very similar to my ten year old Klipsch finish. It is a nice look but seems outdated to me. Thank God they didn't decide on piano black gloss! I would rather see an enclosure that has rounded corners and the satin black finish that exactly matches the finish on the Emotiva speakers. Why not have the subs match our speakers? I heard some complaints about the Emo speaker finish from the guy who reviewed the ERM/ERD at Audioholics. Most everyone else including those here who bought the speakers seem to think from my reading that they look very classy. The only exception seemed to be those who liked the oak, medium or redwood natural wood type veneer look like some of the European made subs.
.....The specifications as listed are meaningless without any references. Why are the specs so high up to 200 Hz? Are we gearing them toward Bose cubes? I want to know what they are from practical frequencies such as 125Hz or so down to 20-25 and at what deviation (+/- 2 or 3dB's). Also at what frequency is the output reference. For example 109-112B's at what frequencies (like 25-100Hz at 109dB's)?
.....The power is what, RMS?
.....Nice to see the clean looking rear panel with variable phase dial and apparent high quality driver inside.
.....My biggest disappointment is that Emotiva has apparently decided to go the way of the relatively small compact sub enclosure with the long throw driver, extra heavy magnet, relatively high power and sealed enclosure (these are all requirements to attempt to compensate for the inherently poorer performance of smaller enclosure subs due to the laws of subwoofer physics). That makes a nice sub for music and the 25-30Hz and up range but not the best best home theater performance.
.....I certainly hope in the future and with their higher priced subs they will consider offering a top performing sub for both music and home theater that goes to 15-18Hz up to 100-125 Hz with low distortion at up to 110dB's and a +/- 2-3dB variation. That type of performance (loud, low, flat response from 125 down to 15Hz and with low distortion ) takes a large enclosure usually with a ported design.
.....Just my thoughts. I don't mean to be negative here. I just figure I had better speak up now so my vote can be counted with other views that are voiced. Dann mentioned that they listen. I hope I'm not too late. ;D
