I was listening to my ERC-1 this morning and noticed that sometimes when I touch the front of the CD player it will pause for a second and then start backup. This happened a couple times so I thought I would see if I could recreate it. I walked around the room a couple times and touched the player and it done it again. I appears that the static from the carpet is causing this. Has anyone else had this problem and should I send the player back?

I had the same problem with mine. I sent it in for other reasons, but this was happening to me also. It's definitely due to static electricity from the room being too dry.

Why would you send it back? Just don't touch the CD player unless you discharge the static from yourself. I don't think that's a defect of the player unless it does it by itself. That's like saying you notice when you pound on the top, it makes the CD skip.

I don't want to send it back but wanted to know if anyone else had this problem. I do not have this issue with any of my other players.

very interesting... Do you put the player direct on carpet? I amusing a granite platform on top of carpet...then I put 3 BRD cones underneath...I've been using mine for couple weeks and don't notice this situation...

Don't send the player back. It sounds like it's static. Before you touch the player or any other piece of gear, touch something else nearby to discharge the electricity.

My ERC does the same thing, but my old Krell processor did the same thing, my Onkyo sometimes does, etc... it is definitely a static issue. There is nothing wrong with your player. I discharge myself on the metal audio rack before I touch anything. Eww... did I just say 'discharge myself'?

what does discharging oneself on the audio rack mean? I'm not sure if your serious or not, but I believe he means "touch the rack (vs. the equipment) to "release" any static built-up on your body... This only works if your rack is made from some metallic material - My wood cabinet doesn't do much for discharging static...
