Hello,
I will be a proud owner of some Emo ERM-6.3 as LCR that will go into a dedicated HT room. I plan on putting these behind an acoustically transparent (AT) screen. Has anyone done this to any of the Emo speaker lines, if so what screen did you go with?
Pictures would be a great help as well.
Thanks! Phi

Haven't done it yet, but planning on it. I've been looking at a DIY AT screen from Seymour AV. www.seymourav.com/screens.aspI'll be using the ERMs (unless I get the upgrade bug), and haven't been able to find a reason not to. Because of their sealed designs, Emos lines of speakers are perfect for placement behind an AT screen. Good luck, and let us know what you decide, and how it goes. *Edit, I know there are people here that have done it, I just can't think of anybody, or the threads they're in.

Thanks for the leads and replies. I'll have to ask if the vertical center channel is the way to go. I thought due to the way the drivers and tweeters are lined up, horizontal would ideal. I'll have to PM bfisher.
Thanks.

Still blows me away months after doing it... - I talked to Emo about the vertical vs horizontal and they recommended vertical if possible. Horizontal is a compromise to help match TVs... but vertical will sound better - for grins I tried horizontal and it didn't sound bad. but both the wife and I agree vertical did sound better. Wasn't a night/day difference or really even describable - just clearer i guess. - Seymour was fantastic to work with. Awesome customer service and an awesome product. The screen is extremely professional looking. I am so thankful I purchased it instead of trying to build my own. Happy to answer any questions. All I can say is do it! and consider anamorphic lens - indescribable when a movie comes on how much more engaging it is!

Thanks bfisher for the reply. Looks like vertical it is, you guys saved me a phone call to Emotiva. I've never considered anamorphic, I'll see if my room can swing it.
Also, do you have pictures of how the speakers sit on the shelves or secured? That would help a lot.
Speakers just arrived, now I have to get moving on finishing up the HT build.
Thanks again.

I should post more pictures... just never seem to find the time. Here is a dropbox set of imagesI don't have any real pictures of the speakers on their wall mounts - however you can kind of get an idea in this "in-build" image (pic 3). I just built a heavy duty 90 degree bracket that is bolted into studs and is reinforced as much as possible to ensure it never moves. The speaker just sits on top of it. You can see the yellow insulation (703) that I covered the front wall with to absorb reflections. This is covered by acoustical microfiber velvet... sucks up any stray light. You can also see an image of the difference anamorphic makes... the "drawn" box is if I was to play a BluRay using the standard size screen (same width that my HDTV 16:9) with black bars. We went with the biggest screen we could fit and it's worked superbly. When we have friends over - their mouths just drop... and then the picture comes on and I have yet to have someone not say "this is the best looking and sounding theater I have ever been in!"

bfisher,
Thank you for the additional pictures. These will certainly help with my front stage construction.
Are there any guidance regarding distance between L-C-R in relation to distance from the side walls for the 6.3?
Thanks again.

Are there any guidance regarding distance between L-C-R in relation to distance from the side walls for the 6.3? nothing I'm aware of. If they are mounted close to a wall, there is a boundary compensation switch which is supposed to help.

I would suggest trying to get them out into the room a bit - gives you easier options to add some toe-in if needed too. All vertical and AT screen rocks my world. You really can't tell the centre might be off by an inch or two when you are over 3m away and have a 100" + screen. The panning is STUNNING and seamless. Also, you ideally need to allow for some distance between the speaker and the screen, more is generally better but at least 2 or 3" I would say (check spec of screen material too, perforated will likely need more than woven). Additionally I suspect taking off the speaker grilles is a good idea, but if you are using a retractable screen (like I currently do) you may want to leave them on for protection when the screen is not deployed. SMX material is supposed to be very good if you fance some DIY (and they now do high end pre-made systems too). I was not overly impressed with my Screen Excellence, the first one had Moire and they quickly swapped it for one with a new material, but they refitted the material and made a mess of the seam so it is shiny (melted) and I am also convinced the fabric was installed backwards on the more grainy, less white side. Screen Research is another brand, probably great but also very expensive. Enjoy, AT is the ultimate HT/HC IMO.
