Does anyone have any experience with these surrounds? They are very unique and have had some pretty positive reviews.... www.axiomaudio.com/qs8.html

Same question. Im interested because I want all cherry speakers. And polks bi/dipole speakers are only black or white. These are like quad directional which intrigues me also. I would use these to go to 7.1 I wonder how they sound compared to polks and if its that important to timbre match the surrounds to the fronts.

I previously owned the Axiom QS4's which are the smaller brother of the QS8's. I had three Axiom M2i's for the LCR is my condo room. I tested out the Emo ERM-1's and ERD-1's and found the Emo's a clear upgrade over the Axiom's.
IMO, the ERD-1 is superior to the Axiom QS design. The review of the Emo ERM-1/ERD-1 review at Audioholics states the same as to the ERD versus the QS.
(I must add that I am a big fan of having all 5 or 7 speakers from the sames brand series with the same exact tweeter for the best surround blend.)

I read the review that Chuckie is thinking of and I 2nd his assessment! The reviewer was amazed at the sound of the Emo surrounds. That being said, you got to give it to those QS8 speakers. . .they are mighty sexy when the lights are on and the wife is looking . Oh well, they all look the same in the dark and the Emo's sound better!

I have them and love them... They do seem a little pricey compared to the erd1's......... As stated above audioholics review of the erd1 ranks them highly. If the erd1's had been available when I bought my speakers I would have definitely considered them. However....... my Gloss Cherry QS8's are very sexy...

I certainly value everyone's input, thanks. But some of the pro reviews gushed over these QS8's:
Wes Phillips, Onhometheater.com
"The QS8s aren't just clever, they're brilliant. They are designed to be wall-mounted (hardware is included) or stand-mounted on their dedicated stands ($139/pair). The QS8 is an oddly shaped box -- seen from above it resembles a rectangle with two diagonally opposing corners lopped off. The two tweeters reside in those sloping walls -- one firing toward the front of the room, the other firing toward the rear. Set into the top and bottom of the speaker (see why you can't just set them on top of something?) are the 5.5" drivers. Think about it -- you've got four drivers firing in four different directions. That's about as diffuse as surrounds get."
Vince Hanada, Hometheatersound.com
"Another great performer in the Epic 80 system is the QS8 surround speaker. The QS8 achieves a near-ideal presentation of both directional and ambient surround effects. This was evident in chapter 37 of The Devil’s Advocate. Al Pacino’s voice bounces from left rear, right front, left rear, and finally left front. His voice is heard distinctly in the left surround speaker. Excellent surround envelopment is shown in chapter 4 of Seven Years In Tibet, during the avalanche scene, where you are surrounded by the sound of the driving wind. A direct-radiating speaker would localize Al Pacino’s voice a bit better, and a dipole surround speaker would be more diffuse. But in my opinion, the QS8 strikes the ideal compromise between a monopole and a dipole surround speaker."
I know sq is paramount, but these are real lookers too. The ERD's, not so much. Pretty sick of basic black too. They are a little pricey and I'm not sure how they would match with my Snells......... Many say that is not as important as some might claim. I don't know.....

I have both the ERDs and the QS8s. I don't think you will be disappointed with the sound of either. My QS8'S are on the side and the ERD's are in the back. Since they are mounted on the walls I haven't felt like moving them to compare them. I have had the QS8's longer and have heard more movies/music through them and I plan on keeping them and the ERD's for a long time.
I looked up the snell C/V and the tweeter looks almost identical to the Axiom tweeter they are both titanium. I think they might blend well with the QS8's.

I have previously had the QS8 with M60 fronts and VP150 center and SVS sub. In my opinion, the QS8 was the strong point of my Axiom set-up besides the SVS. Having said that, I now have the ERD-1s and think they are better, especially when you consider price. I just think I prefer a dome tweeter over titanium. I went from Axiom to Kef iQ and finally to Emotiva. I like the way the dome tweeter sounds in my room, it is less harsh to my ears. I like watching movies at a pretty high volume and my current set-up is less fatiguing to my ears. Anyways, I don't think you can go wrong either way, if you want Cherry and don't mind the extra money, go for the Axiom, they may match your existing system better. But, if you want to save some cash and can live with the black speakers, give the ERDs a try, you can always send them back if you don't like them.

I don't know about that. I think Baskin-Robbins Chocolate Mousse Royale® is the answer! ;D

I don't know about that. I think Baskin-Robbins Chocolate Mousse Royale® is the answer! ;D Pardon me, I take umbrage with your choice! Everyone knows the best flavor in Ben and Jerry's Coffee Heathbar Crunch. This flavor is more stable @ 4 ohms

In my experience the Axiom speakers were like a McDonalds sunday...
Nice looking in the pictures on the menu board but not the most healthy or best tasting and made of poor quality ingredients...
PS it's just an opinion ppl!

In the end DIY is the only way to go. For example using a PE Dayton cab, some cheap drivers and even a prefab xover I can get better sound than I had with the simple two way Axiom M3. For a two way bookshelf GR Research's kits are a much better speaker for the money. Have you ever dissected an Axiom speaker chuckienut? It's surprising the midwoofer they use can even breath looking at it's cheap pressed frame that covers over 40% of the back of the cone. Really they are made from bottom of the barrel components and the cabs are poorly braced on the floorstanders (I should have realized when they failed the knuckle rap test) and they are even cheap on poly fill like it's worth lots of $$ or something. The only Axiom speaker I like is the QS8. Other than that they are pure and utter Internet astroturfing marketing BS and even I fell victim to and I am willing to admit I was fooled (reality or not that's how I feel about it). Sure they sound better than box store crap but that sure as heck isn't saying much and it says even more about our ears and expectations these days. IMHO they are the Internet Direct parallel to some guys selling speakers outta the back of a van in the pub parking lot. Not in terms of service or presentation but certainly in performance and design. To anyone who's in the know or knows a thing or two about speaker design will agree. I mean common man... a TMMMT center? Have any of you ever seen another center channel designed like that in the entire industry? I didn't realize how fooled I was until I took an M80 apart and inspected it's construction and the drivers closely. The xover design doesn't even attempt to account for the combing (coupling and phase) issues inherent in using two tweeters like he does in the M80. The Skiing Ninja critique (Dannie Ritchie) on his forum sums it up best if it's still online. It's totally honest from an engineer's standpoint. tinyurl.com/yhuxsn6 This also explains the XPA-2 overload triggering using the M80 That's the only truth you'll ever hear online about Axiom as they have extensive relationships with online reviewers (WHORES WHORES!) and a fantastic astroturfing legion or army. Just wait till they chime in here and start flaming me! If they have the balls... PS and don't get on me for calling the media/news/online review/magazine people whores as we all know they are whores... the entire lot less Consumer Reports

You ppl have no idea how lucky we are to have Emotiva! It's amazing their ODM lets them move gear at the $$$ they do as other OEM/VAR stencils in tier 1 must get pissed at times IMHO considering both Bob and Denis have sold their stencils at 4x the price...
