...and Emo took a bath on that unit and wound up losing $$$ on it. No going back to a receiver for them. That is not the market they are after.

Emotiva did have an AVR -- the DMR-1 -- in the beginning and decided not to continue that direction. It was a beast from what I've heard. Wasnt its retail like $2500? It was a pretty lightweight piece at 40lbs........did it even have basic 720p HDMI switching or True HD or MA? Assuming my guesstimate on price is correct, that AVR didn't make much sense. Think of it, A UPA-7 plus a UMC-1 in one chassis(say the XPR-7)the price should be at or UNDER $1400. At that price point it would be a pretty hot seller Id think for those who want an all in one AV solution.

did it even have basic 720p HDMI switching or True HD or MA? dude, it came out in like 2005 Were they using "F" Type 75-Ohm Coaxial Antenna video connectors in those years? Or was it 300-Ohm Twin Lead video antenna connectors? Or did those came after it? Hmmm... just seems like yesterday we were still using VHF/UHF antenna terminal connections. Oh well...

I understand both sides. But once you have delved into realm of a separate amp, there is no going back. However, by producing an avr, Emo gains another forum member. Once a forum member, no telling how much that individual might be into the upgrade mode.

I think all in one units are not for people who are really into serious HiFi or HT, I Have a denon A1-SR, Great unit but no way to expand between pre and power amps, which BTW is why I am looking to buy the UMC-1 and UPA7 or similar amp setup. And far as ipod docking and such goes, well my view is" what a Joke" they are not really Audiophile Items.

I just browsed upon the Emotiva Pro website and lo and behold there are 2 new receiver on there, the PMR-7175 and the PMR-7125. I guess if Emotiva wants it they could make them into 'regular' Emotiva models.

Yeah, but look at the price. Way cheaper for the separates on this site than the pro site!

They're called separate "Pro/Receivers"! ...Still only one component to change from your rack when comes time to upgrade. ;D

I could foresee an Emo AVR as the pro line has blazed the trail for Emo. I'm guessing they're thinking about how to market it without turning off the guys who like separates like you, you, and you (ya know who ya'r).
Would I buy it? We bought Emo because we like the value proposition of a lot of its products. It would have to be same with the AVR or the next XMC, etc. for me to consider it in the future.
I think the AVR market is simply too big to ignore as I mentioned in another thread. That's why Anthem, for example, came out with a $3K AVR. I'm guessing Emo's would have to max out at $1,500.

It would be interesting to "meld" an UMC-1 and UPA-7 (or 5) into a single chassis for a very cool av receiver. I'd bet it would have broad appeal for those who just aren't all that interested in separates. Man, it would be heavy though....... Yes? No? Interesting but likely not achievable to fit inside a 9 inch high rack as every major amp or AVR can - unless D class technology is used and we already have that in the affordable Pioneer Elite SC series. Emotiva's niche is with affordable separates.
