Hello,
I've recently sold my front 3 speakers (Axiom M50t and VP150) and am looking for new towers and a center. My original intent was to order the SVS MTS-01 towers and MCS-01 center, until I ordered an XPA-3 amp and noticed that Emotiva also sells speakers!
My tastes run slightly more towards music than HT (60/40), which is why I would prefer the 8.3 towers over the 6.3 bookshelves, but my setup also includes an SVS PC12-Plus.
My question is this... given certain budgetary constraints, how would the ERT-8.3s perform in a phantom center mode for HT? Eventually I would upgrade to the 6.3 as a center channel, but probably not for a while.
If anyone has tried this, please let me know. I'm looking to make my purchase in the next few days!
Thanks, Evan

Since you have a good sub to take care of the low end how about getting 6.2s for L/C/R or 6.2s for L.R and 6.3 for the center?

Since you have a good sub to take care of the low end how about getting 6.2s for L/C/R or 6.2s for L.R and 6.3 for the center? I really do love the look of a tower speaker and occasionally will throw on music in full range 2-channel without the sub. I considered using three 6.3s instead; however, that also bumps me out of my original pricing bracket. I was hoping I could phantom the 8.3s and eventually upgrade to the full set... but maybe that was just wishful thinking?

I second the two 6.2's with the sub and the 6.3 center. At Emofest, they had all the speakers set up in a listening room playing 2 channel music. Between the 6.2's and the 6.3's, I personally liked the sound of the 6.2's better. Of course, your preference may be different. I have a pair of 8.3's and love them. They replaced a pair of B&W 603s3 that got sent to the small office/playroom upstairs. I have a center speaker, so I judge on the phantom center. They do spread a wide path on two channel music though. Hope this helps.
