I just switched to Verizon FIOS. I have the QIP7216 DVR software version 1.7. While connected using HDMI cables when I turn off the UMC-1 the DVR keeps rebooting. I tried two DVRs and two cables but still the DVR continuously reboots while the UMC-1 is turned off. I connected the DVR with componemt and coax cables for now. I still loose audio when fast fowarding or rewinding the DVR. I just switch imputs and switch back again to get sound back.

Sounds similar to the issues users are having with their DISH and DirectTV boxes.
Sit tight until the new firmware is released.
Does your box still reboot if you shut it down first then the UMC?

Hmm I didn't try turning off the DVR first but I'll try it.

Hmm I didn't try turning off the DVR first but I'll try it. Its a HDMI handshake issue. The box doesn't like what it is getting when the UMC is shut down. The issue can be fixed one of two ways. 1) The STB firmware can be changed to ignore the unknown signal. (remember its not a 1.3 HDMI device) 2)The UMC firmware can be changed to not send the signal (whatever it is) to the device on its input. #2 is more likely to happen since cable/FiOS/SAT companies change firmware on a very limited basis.

I tried turning the DVR off first but still it continually reboots while the UMC-1 is powered off. I guess the DVR doesn't really shut off the hdmi circuit when the DVR turned off. Hopefully FIOS will update the DVR soon . Why doesn't my TV have all this trouble? No handshaking no delays when changing inputs? Is because the HDMI standards and rules have changed in the year since I bought my plasma?

I did the firmware update. I had no problems at all using windows XP pro with admin rights. I didn't disable symantec endpoint protection during the install although I probably should have . Still the FIOS DVR continuously reboots while the umv-1 is turned off. am I the only one with FIOS who has this trouble? It's not a deal breaker for me because I'm sure FIOS will release new DVR boxes one day .

I did some checking and the QIP7216 had continuous reboot issues, but firware version 1.6 was suppose to resolve this but I don't have one so I can't confirm this. Can you contact your provider and see if there is a firmware upgrade for your unit?
