Heard this on a Parts Express forum. I have been wanting to try the analog thing for a while and a USP-1 with a pair of XPA-1's and a turntable might be a pretty sweet two channel setup for my finished room over the garage.
Any Emotiva folks want to comment?
If they do how will the turntable compare to the same material played through my ERC-1?

Hey Closets I am using 2 XPA-1's for my 2 channel listening and they are one of the cleanest well controlled Mono Block Amps I've heard.. Pair those XPA-1's with the USP-1 and a Turntable with a good quality arm and Cartridge and you'd have one smoking Anolog set up... As for comparing material played on a Turntable or the ERC-1 it will depend on the quality of the Table, there are some damn fine tables out there that will lay waste to a lot of CD Players. The ERC-1 is an excellent CD Player and much better than most costing $1,000.00 plus but vinyl is vinyl and cd is cd. I for one like vinyl... It is warmer & more detailed(again this depend on the table).. That is my personal preference though and I'm sure opinions will vary..

I have not heard that the Emo folks are working on a Turntable.... Would be sweet if they did though...

I would buy one in a heart beat. Not for me, I don't have a lot of vinyl, but my stepdad loves his old vinyl! That would be an awesome xmas gift!

The idea of an Emotiva turntable has been mentioned a couple of times in the last year or so. It seems that Lonnie has been toying with the idea for a while now and one of the things he mentioned about including with the Emo table was the use of "magnetic bearings" and driving the table itself with a magnetic field. Knowing Lonnie, any turntable he would design will be state-of-the-art and have world-class performance.
I would love to see more info on what Lonnie has in mind for a future Emotiva Turntable/tone arm. It would be a great addition to add to their 2-channel analog offerings. Just picture it... USP-1 plus ERC-1 plus XSP-1 plus the TurnTable plus one of the Mono-blocks or dual channel amps. The upcoming DAC would fit in with the analog goods very well. The turntable would be a logical addition to their line.

why not a tube amp too? Could you use a turntable in a normal pre/pro like the UMc then?

why not a tube amp too? Could you use a turntable in a normal pre/pro like the UMc then? Of course. Just be aware that the UMC does not have a phono input. You would need to use an external phono preamp if you wanted to use the UMC. When the XMC-1 ships, it will have a phono input; the USP-1 and the XSP-1 preamps also have phono inputs. Any of these Emotiva products are fully capable of being used with high-end turntables. The determinant factor is what other features do you need. You match your needs to the feature set of each of their products when making your choice. There are very good phono preamps from both tube and solid state camps. Again, just define what your needs are and then match it up with the appropriate gear. Some people like tube sound and some don't... the same holds true for solid state products. Your ears will be the final judge.

I don't think an emo turntable makes sense personally...... Turntables are a whole new ballgame. I don't think they will be able to achieve the same business model as they have with the rest of their equipment and by this I mean superior quality at a lower price.
Also up in the thread someone mentioned using a magnetic field to drive the turntable...how would this even come close to working without interference in the cartridge? I think that if it were easy and inexpensive to do it would be done already.
I do love Emo's products but I don't think they should try to do it all....look at what happened when an excellent Speaker Id company tried to get into the electronics game....it all fell apart. I don't think emo coming out with a turntable would cause them nearly as many problems but I don't think they can compete the way they do with everything else.
Just my 2 cents

Oh yes, they should do it all...coffeemakers, toasters, turntables, eh well maybe you are right. They should just stick with amps and such. How about Emotiva coffee mugs though? That would be cool.

Just my 2 cents When I first heard Emotiva was going to come out with a line of speakers I thought that they were making a big mistake. I thought they would be going beyond the their level of expertise. Was I ever wrong the Emotiva speakers a great and one of the biggest bargains in all of audio. Now, I have a great deal more faith that their expertise is far wider than I thought it to be. The magnetic drive turntables can be shielded to where interference with the cartridge is not an issue. There are a few turntables using that type of drive system on the market already. However, they are extremely expensive -- multi-thousands of dollars. If Emotiva can't bring this type of table to market at bargain pricing they won't do it at all. They are NOT dumb. Also, don't forget that Big Dan's other company does OEM design and manufacturing for many of the big names in A/V; and they produce products across a very broad range for cars and home A/V... maybe even in the pro equipment venue. I would definitely be interested in what they have in mind for such a venture. I know that if they do move forward on the turntable it will have exceptional quality at an affordable price. Can you think of any Emotiva product that doesn't fit that mold? My current Thorens table is over 30 years old and I am thinking about replacing it in the not too distant future. Emotiva's timing could work out very well for my plans. If Lonnie is involved in the design I want to know more about it. He is truly an A/V guru. ;D

I talked w/Lonnie about many things at Emofest, mainly sound quality of UMC-1 vs. XMC-1 vs. USP-1 as I was debating UMC-1 + USP-1 or wait for XMC-1 and skip the USP-1 for now, etc. In the discussion, he did mention he had an interest in a turntable and some idea on how he would want to do it. All was consistent w/what RR says (and, I'd be considering replacing a 25+ year old Thorens myself if an Emo option came out...)
My adds to the points RR said already are that it was pretty clear from Lonnie he had some experience/knowledge-base that would help him design a good one, but that the turntable idea was lower priority than other things they are doing. I would personally see them focusing on the XMC-1, the XPR amp line, the subs, the DAC, possibly a BluRay, and other things like an even higher line of pre/pro's before a turntable.
My 2 cents...

I have no interest in a turntable having given up vinyl many years ago... but a nice lazy susan would work in my kitchen.
