Been listening to my ERC for about 3 months now...it'll best anything in the $1500 range. Made some new interconnects with 28AWG solid silver and put them in place of my copper between ERC and USP...night & day difference...another level...great stuff!

i agree about the erc-1.
i read on another forum some who claimed a 90 dollar denon dvd/cd player 'smoked' the erc-1. maybe it was that they were just 'smokin' something.
otherwise...happy listening.....

I noticed a big difference going from solid state amps to tube amps.

I'm a tube fan myself. Bought some amps...built some amps. These products, to my ears, are extremely neutral with a warmth that is uncanny for solid state without being "dry". The change in interconnects went from a slight midrange "bloat" to deeper bass and treble extension while scaling back the midrange slightly. Dynamics also improved. I've built my own cables for years just because it relaxes me and it's fun. I'm also one of those people who believes there's alot of "snake oil" in the cable business!

Don't have any pics of my...very modest...system at the moment. I'm out of town for about a week. I'll try to take some and post them when I return...

Just curious what the cables look like that you made! Where did you get the cable from or did you actually make everything... Eg. shielding around the solid silver etc... Thanks!

I have found that solid silver cables tend to make the sound appear a little brighter than copper. Is this what you are referring to as being night and day differences? I find the ERC is a little on the bright side, all by itself, and I use home spun solid copper in a PBJ style braid, with one side open ended (directional).

I thought Lonnie with the ERC-1 was trying to achieve the transparent sound of the original cd stamping or the way the artist intended one to hear. The main reason I bought an ERC-1 was that the analog section was to be as close to neutral and non-coloring of the signal as possible. Is the brightness that you are referring to the comparison to another cd transport? Just curious on your use of the word "bright".

Bright, crisp. some sibilance. A little towards metallic or tinny in the top end. Slightly forward and in your face. Don't get me wrong. I love my ERC. I hear things I never heard before on most of my CDs. It's just that when I heard the ERC through a tube amp, it became much more laid back and subtle. My Oppo on the other hand is too laid back and subtle. It's good, but not great.

When I got my PL 700B back from the shop and put it back into my main system the sound from the ERC-1 did sound forward and towards the middle and in my face. When I swapped out the PL 700B for a Sumo 9+ (65 Watt/channel Class A amp) I still heard lots of nice details in the music I was playing but the music didn't sound so fwd and in the middle. So I guess I'm not going crazy. JD
