Does anyone make a decent quality wireless powered speaker? This is for my porch patio area and very casual listening (and one that doesn't look or sound like a rock.) I know Soundcast makes one, but its a floor standing thing that cost $800.00 and some one could just walk away with.
Yes? No?

No!
LOL
There is no such thing as a wireless speaker. They require an amp to be driven. The amp requires a power plug... The amp also in most cases is separate from the speakers so you have to run cables to the speakers anyway! DUH!
Is it not easier to retrofit a couple speaker cable runs? Hire an electrician to do it.
And 95% of them are using very cheap digital amps and sound like garbage.
As you can tell from a principled level I think so called "wireless speakers" are RETARDED

Actually, JBL and Griffin both have wireless offerings but I'm not impressed. And I don't agree with solidstate that there is no such thing as a wireless speaker. What's a wireless subwoofer? A powered speaker that receives a wireless signal. I just bought the Subcast wireless system for a sub in zone 2 and now that will be a powered wireless speaker. If you can stream music wirelessly from your computer to you AV receiver, why can't you do the same to a powered speaker... Someone needs to just make one. There is/was a system that transmits your audio signal thru the AC lines. Just need to plug in some sort of a module or something like that, not sure. Hey, its for the screen porch...... reviews.cnet.com/surround-speaker-systems/jbl-on-air-control/4505-7868_7-32331402.html?tag=mncol;lstwww.soundcastsystems.com/products/subcast

But I have no power amp to run them. So, I either buy another power amp.......or mess around with the idea of having some wireless speakers. As I said Suncast makes great ones but they are a lot of money.... Whether you think they are "retarded" or not isn't important. It would be nice if you could post something constructive and try to help me out.

Here are some wireless speakers (need adapter) with built in amps, built in iPod dock, that don't break the bank. Only unfortunately thing is they aren't waterproof, so you'll need to bring them in when not in use. www.audioengineusa.com/index.php?osCsid=

I saw those,
These are powered but you have to buy the wireless transmitters as well I think. They look a bit small and I wanted to leave them out if possible. But thanks!!

It's just as an integrator/installer I hear wireless this wireless that mantra over and over again from luddites and it really pisses me off as it's not reliable. This debate occurs when I'd trying to convince them to follow TIA/EIA-568-B guidelines and run two cat5e and two RG6 (Belden banana peel 7876S) point to point from panel to every phone/tv/ethernet/stereo location in the house as well as speaker homeruns from AV rack location to panel. Electricians use it as an excuse also when they don't run necessary structured wiring. "you can just use wireless..." ARGH!!! I can't believe your even considering wireless garbage if the wires are already there.... Wait for UPA-2 and be done with it! Also if your looking for a great outdoor speaker that sounds good to my ear checkout the Mirage Omni design. www.miragespeakers.com/na-en/products/outdoor-speaker/The omnipolar wave guide thing really works well as a can and "ambient" sound distro. The Omniguide is a natural for this application. Expensive but IMHO best can and outdoor speakers around for what they do/are. PS the 6" driver is the way to go with those IMHO forget the smaller ones. PSS I'd get them quick before Klipsch Group drives Mirage into the ground cause you just know that evil outfit will!

Thanks and no biggie Well the whole idea was NOT to have yet another amplifier in my rack because there is no room for it, and the screen porch is not very demanding for listening criteria. I love technology, so I thought I'd explore the wireless option which has come along way. I have some Boston Acoustics speakers out there now and they sound pretty good, waiting to hear more about the new EMO outdoor ones... For an amp, I like the Dayton one which is a unbadged EMO BPA-1. Its small and I can hide it and I believe its signal sensing so when I turn that zone on it powers up. BTW the Griffin system is great. Truly portable and decent sound, but it does not suit the outdoor need. www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-812%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20&FTR=apa150%20amplifier&CFID=23248265&CFTOKEN=30003866

I used to live in a house that I went ahead and ran the speaker wire to a volume level control box to some dedicated out door speakers made by Klipsch with 6" drivers. I have a UPA-7 and so I split the pre-out on the AVR and used two channels of the UPA-7 to power the speakers. The volume control box was used to turn on or off the outdoor speakers. It sounded really good but I know it's not a wireless setup.
I tried to find wireless speakers but never found anything worth the money or poor sound quality. I think wireless powered subs are in a different category all together since they usually have a quality amp to begin with. If you want it done right your best bet is to run the wire to some decent outdoor speakers.
