If it is working as intended then it is broke. Look at the original post. He has setting for speakers he doesn't even have and flatline for a surround speaker he has. No way is that working right and no way would a room affect that. And it is not like he is the only one this is happening to. Agreed. I'm just telling you what I was told today when I asked what the deal was with Em-Q. I have had the same wacky readings, and have posted them here on the forums - check it out. You're preaching to the choir. Sorry. I think they way I wrote it made it sound like I was giving you a hard time. I am in total agreement with you. My reply is directed towards emotiva. I just can't understand how they can tell you everything is working as it should, with results for speakers that don't exist. It makes no sense.

For right now, I don't care what it's setting things at. Why? Because if this isn't a labeling bug (still no acknowledgement of the issue even) the whole system to me is in question. I'm no expert on the setting of levels, curves and such but I do know what speakers I have. Something is broken.
I'm a little saddened by the fact that they immediately acknowledged the bugs in the original firmware but are silent on these. I guess there's no benefit in publicly stating the bugs anymore. (Reminds me of Warcraft and their constant "Working as intended" response... until they fix it.)
Still, this isn't the worst issue for me. It's the fact that every time I watch something off my DVR I have to hope that I don't lose the audio. Once again last night in 3 hours I had it happen twice. Is it hard to change inputs? No... but I. shouldn't. have. to.

Maybe if people start sending them back for repair they might acknowledge the problems and fix them.

For what it's worth, I'm having the exact same problem with the labeling.

your pics look like the results I got. EMO-Q detected my R/L surrounds and didn't detect any surround backs as I don't have any. But yet it applied EQ to my non-existent back and not to my surrounds.... +1 I think this is a bug, as the sound seems to be correctly coming out of the speakers. I think the labels are incorrect. I think the UI label is showing back speakers for side speakers and vice versa.

When your a small company like Emotiva you obviously don't have a huge R&D budget like say Pioneer or Sony.
I hope Emotiva learned a lesson here..they have to beta test some of their gear like OPPO did. Thats the only way there gonna flush out the bugs. I think a limited beta test of about 50 units would have saved them a lot of grief. Yeah..it would of delayed the UMC release even more..but is the current situation better??

To be clear, I had watched the video prior to receiving my UMC, and totally get the point being made. But in this case I know I did everything correctly. I personally did NOT like the set-up that EMO-Q created, so I did change it, but no worries there, personal preference I guess. My point with the UI bug is that I don't think this is about how good/bad EMO-Q is functioning, I think it is simply mislabeling the speakers on some screens. Normally I would say that this is a trivial issue, but it is VERY confusing when trying to set-up a new system, so I think it would be helpful if Emo would acknowledge the problem and let people know that, until the get a chance to fix it, A really means B, and B really means A. That way people can properly interpret their results.

Does Emotiva have a 7.1 system in the theater they're using?
I wonder if they could disconnect the rear channels and get the same results we're getting. I'll have to check to be sure, but I'm pretty sure that I have the same issue.
OTOH, my room is crap, and I'm sure I have all kinds of weird reflections and such.

Plus, I would assume that having a 'bad room' (which I probably also have) has nothing to do with implying that speakers exist when they don't.

I wonder if they could disconnect the rear channels and get the same results we're getting. If this hasn't been done already, and on multiple systems, it would simply blow my mind. One of the first things you learn when trying to test things is you don't do it the way it's supposed to be done. You do it in the most screwed up way you can think of because someone will do that. If you keep doing what you know works, what's the point? That's what beta testing it for. Put it in the hands of someone who has no idea what they're doing with it, and let them go to town. I'm curious if it was run with no speakers, only fronts, only backs, only front right, only SW, and on and on. That's how you catch bugs. Do the unexpected to flush out issues with expected results.

It's been mentioned before, but I'm surprised there is not a user input for the speakers you ACTUALLY have, to begin the setup. That's what my Harman Kardon has, but that's the only experience I have w/ auto calibrating.
I have yet to receive a UMC. I don't think any of the 'bugs' that have been discovered will deter me, but regardless, I foresee several issues related directly to my situation. I'll just have to wait and see, and in the mean time keep watching everyone else's issues.
