We're well aware of the developments in 3D and 1.4. but it'll be a cold day in he** before I watch TV with those stupid glasses on... however, as you humble servants, we'll do our part to get you to buy our newest and most up to date toys! I pushing for 18.4 channel audio. We'll sell more amps then! Glasses will not be provided!! Big Dan

More important is Ethernet. Both for media streaming and software updates. ;D

^^ I agree. About everything is going internet-connected these days. I love my internet radio!
I'm sure that after the initial experience with the UMC-1 firmware update, Emotiva will be looking into the possibility of internet-based updates (ala Oppo, etc..). Would save a lot of time, effort and returned units to deal with, IMHO...

But I'd still need a 1.4/3d capable TV correct? I don't see myself updating that for a while. Yup. No one has done a tear-down yet since the sets aren't available, but it is logical to presume that all 3D sets will be 1.4 so that they get the signalling data needed to identify the encoding type. In reality, unless the price differential is high, the set manufacturers will gravitate to the "PortProcessor" type of chip for their HDMI inputs. Soon to be available from the leading suppliers, they will also have "fast switching" capability to mostly eliminate delay when the input is changed. These are also the chips that you'll likely see replacing the conventional "Rx" chips used now in surround processors and receivers. Of course, for an audio product you'll also need a 1.4 Tx, as well.

I have never liked the idea of those stupid glasses too. I cant imagine having a date come over to watch a movie and handing her a pair of red and blue lensed cardboard glasses. Pretty sure thats as far as that night would go. However, I love the idea of buying something with the absolute latest technology implemented and ready to use.

I see no reason 1.4 is an issue for a good while.3d tv,with granny wearing glasses,I dunno.....As to 3d tv's with no glasses, don't hold your breath for the real thing, maybe someday but by then we'll all have different prepros(build in to our flying cars).

Not a lot, mind you, but the technology is there. Do a google search for "3d tv no glasses". There were a couple sets at CES this year and I know I saw an article somewhere about a 3d digital camera that had a 3d display built in and an 8 inch 3d frame you could buy that didn't require glasses. I fully agree though. No point to jump on the 1.4 bandwagon for a good long while... I'll probably be on waiting list for an XMC-2 or 3 by the time the no glasses tech really takes off.

yeah, 3D tv's might be showing up now, but by the time they're affordable, you'll be a able to afford a new proccessor.
