I am not sure if they are updates - I read this on an 8003 owners forum:
"According to Marantz, and some previous posters, both prologic ex (for rear surrounds from 5.1 Dolby True HD) and neo 6 (for rear surrounds from DTS HD Master Audio) can be applied with firmware version 17, and the prologic ex to some previous firmware versions. I can not verify this since my unit is firmware version 13. "
I don't know why older versions couldn't be updated via internet download.
