I have a 5.1 system with 4 tower speakers. What height is best for the rear surround tweeters to be at. I have read about the height as if I was standing. Is this a good guess? If so I am thinking about putting my rear towers on blocks to raise them up.

One of my reasons for having 8.3s all around was to have all the tweeters at or near near ear level. What bothers me is the center channel speaker being below the LCD TV. It does make for some discontinuity in the soundstage height across the front. I'm debating lowering my TV and having the center channel above the screen. The center of my screen is roughly eye-level . I've also played with tilting the center speaker upward, but that is not a cure.

Yes your L&R surrounds tweeters should be just above ear level if there the same as the front towers , I have my klipsch KG5.5`s on blocks just for that same reason

One of the things that I wish I had was an acoustically transparent projection screen. It takes care of the center channel placement by letting you place the speaker behind the screen, in the center (vertically and horizontally), where it belongs.
I wonder what would happen if the center channel were removed and were rerouted to the left and right speakers. If the center speaker cannot be placed near the vertical center due to the size of the screen, would it be better off to omit it?

The other option is to use 2 centre speakers, one above and one below. If you tell your receiver there is no centre it should automatically create a "phantom" centre by splitting the centre info to L+R. That said, there is a reason for having a centre speaker. And yes, AT screens RULE.
