SWMBO is not happy. Here's what she doesn't like : 1.) Portions of our main system are not remotely controlled. 2.) Level shifts dramatically when you shift inputs. Neither she or I have any interest in surround sound - good stereo is important to me.
Here's my shopping list for a processors:
A.)) Must be able to lock all inputs into stereo operation - in other words whatever comes in (analogue, digital or HDMI) - has to exit as a stereo signal.
B.) Must be able to set separate gain for each input and lock it in. No jumps in volume when she shifts from one source to another.
C.) I'd like to be able use a built in crossover to separate out my woofers from mid/tweets.
D.) My biggest concern is to not screw up what I've got now in terms of music reproduction - I like having better sound for the "tube" ( I've been feeding the output of TV's thru my stereo for 40+ years - back to the days when TV's had hot chassis and you had to add a jack to even get sound out of 'em other than thru their built in cheesy speakers.) - but I "need" good stereo for music.
E.) Every once in a great while I set up surround systems for friends/former customers - The last couple have had latter versions of the Audissey (spl?) room calibration/EQ system built in. I've been very impressed. Does the new Emotiva processor offer this capability for stereo reproduction ?
What we are using now - Slindy Rabco arm with Denon DL-301/II on a slindy four pillar Oracle moded table goes into a B&K Phono 10 - out of that digitally into Benchmark DAC-1 - which feeds a Paradigm XO-30 crossover that splits things at 120 hz/24dB per octave and sends the lows into one channel of a Adcom GFA-55se to the woofer of a B&W 801/series 80 - other amp channel is sent to a B&W CM-1 ( Concept 90) that handles the mids and highs. So - I have one amp per stereo channel =split between bass and treble/midrange. To get audio out of my LG 1080i CRT TV - toslink goes to a Marantz pre/pro - this is selected for stereo and feeds out this signal via analog Fr and FL outputs into a RatSchack A/D converter into one of the Benchmarks digi inputs. There's also a DVD changer and a Sony HD tuner that are being fed into the Marabtz pre-pro ;For CD playback the Sp/DIF out of a Marantz CD recorder is fed into another of the Benchmark's digi inputs. This max's out the dac-1'S inputs. The combo does a very nice job with analog and is a pleasure to listen to with well recorded CD's ( early shriekers - not so much)- don't want to loose that - but would like to make SWMBO a lot more comfortable with what's there in terms of operation and convenience.
So -is there Emotiva gear( old model(s) or new latest greatest) that would allow me to use one box to eliminate/substitute for the pre-pro ,crossover and A/D converter ? I can switch the Benchmark to fixed output and feed it into the "new" pre/pro ? as a analog fixed input -using the new product as a volume control with room EQ ? I realize that I would be using only a small portion of the Pre/Pro's features for stero only reproduction - but could certainly live with that - as long as it didn't compromise my music playback quality.
Help/ideas or even - this just ain't gonna work- would be helpful.
Thanks.
