Who is foolish enough to buy a new product that is untested for reliability without a warranty like that? I assume the Emotiva warranty is non transferrable...
not that emotiva is bad but I would still want the price of mind of the warranty.

Just one of the many benefits of purchasing from Emotiva!

Gotta love early adopters! I'll probably pick up a UMC-1 on AG after the XMC-1 comes out

It does make you (or at least me) wonder what the "market" would bear...
If a guy (or gal) were patient, could they sell their UMC-1 for a very large markup, then use those funds to purchase another UMC-1 and a XPA-5 (or other gear...).

I can't imagine they will hold your place and price if you don't have the money. I would imagine you lose your place in the pre-order and will have to buy when it is available for general sale at what ever price they determine then. Sounds reasonable to me.On another note, the buyer must not follow billm's post across the world wide web. Yeah, now that I think about it, that is the most logical probability. Here's to hoping the timing is right! Interesting thoughts on the re-sale value of a UMC-1 at the moment as well...Despite all the hoopla surrounding the firmware updates everyone knows that this a SERIOUS piece of gear that could elevate their system to a level beyond reproach!!! (at least until the XMC comes out )

I was thinking, even at $899 the seller wasn't making that much. Figure they paid $699 plus $20 for shipping. Listing on a-gon they pay 1% of selling price, plus 3% for paypal fees, and the seller was paying shipping. They stood to make maybe $100 or so. Probably figured it was better than eating the shipping and sending it back to Emotiva for a refund. Although, the last one listed was still sealed in the box.

(at least until the XMC comes out ) Unfortunately it didn't elevate my system to a level beyond reproach. As a matter of fact... I feel that my old Yamaha 663 had better imaging, transparency and sound stage than I'm getting with the UMC-1. Maybe I still need to do some more tweaking or something... all I know is that while the sound is very clear and accurate... the enveloping sound that I got with my Yamaha is no longer present. The UMC-1 just sounds kind of flat.

That just goes to prove we all have different taste, there's no right or wrong.I've had two Yamahas, neither lasted a week, shallow, tinny and bright to my ears.Thats just my ears, and everyone I know.

Did you try EQing them with the "natural" setting, they are much deeper/dynamic set like that IME.
