I recall reading a post by Lonnie I think that there is a new remote coming that would be soon... a few weeks away. But for the life of me I have looked and searched and found nothing.
Can we get some more info on this, like what it looks like, and really when it will be available and is it an option and if so how much will it be. What is with the secrecy...
My UMC-1 ships in just over a month and I need this remote at the very least.
Failing that can someone confirm the Harmony inclusion of direct codes once and for all...is it in, not in , submitted for general release?
Cheers

Here ya' go ... this is what Lonnie posted:
"Just a heads up to everyone.
We will be releasing an upgrade remote for the UMC very soon. All aluminum with discrete input selections.
It should be here in a few weeks."

The current UMC remote is a disgrace..albeit a functional one. It reminds me of something I would find in a dollar store.

I like that the standard remote is cheap, since I'll never use it and it keeps cost down. Offering a higher end remote to those willing to pay for it is the best of both worlds.

I may be on an island with this opinion... but at the level this equipment is at... I would much rather they just give us a very basic remote (like they have). For folks that have not yet ventured into Programmable/Universal Remotes... its amazing how un-cluttered you can make your HT area, not to mention making the whole system WAF.

Same goes for the remote for the USP-1. Granted, I 100% understand that packaging in an all-aluminum one might not be the most cost effective thing to do, but for God sakes, at least give us a plastic one that is consistent with the $20 Wal*Mart DVD player in my kitchen. Has anyone heard what this remote is going to cost? Considering the current one, I'd hope it'd be VERY reasonable for current UMC-1 owners.

Because not everyone has a Harmony remote. And, I think there's a lot of room between a "fancy remote" and one that would make sense with a $200 receiver from Best Buy. Not looking for a DMC-1/MMC-1 remote, just something where the buttons don't squeak when you press them, and is heavy enough where my cat can't bat it off the table because it's so light.

Ditto! +1 Same here - I haven't used a non-universal remote for 10 years (Pronto, Pronto Plus, and now a Harmony) and I really like the approach of keeping the costs down and the value high.

LOL...I knew the remote cheap..but I just couldn't believe how much so until I actually had it in my hand. I certainly understand the point people make who have universal remotes already..but for an extra $1 they(EMO) probaly could of supplied something much more substantial. I'm looking forward to the new remote...
