Hi, folks.
We're wanting to get the UMC-1 manual completed, and we'd like your input. The biggest reason it's not officially finished is because we knew we need to add to it, and make changes based on what users learned, needed to know, etc.
There are threads everywhere that discuss this, could you please list everything in this thread, so it's easy to keep up with?
Thanks.

Dan PLEASE give a brief and simple explanation of the EQ settings. It doesnt have to go into depth but just basics for those of us who will be making manual adjustments for tweaking. The EMOQ distances were perfect I just want to go in now and make some adjustments with these but not sure which way they should go. Sorry if that sounds stupid.

Some clarification of Direct mode would be nice. Specifically how Direct is handled when speakers are set to small (does this override Direct and apply HPF to front speakers?)

The trigger mode needs details as well. Maybe its me, but it wasn't very intuitive.

Not a biggie at all but maybe add the discrete codes to the manual (as an appendix)?
Also, please include the following points (just to avoid confusion or follow-up queries):
1. Mention that both subwoofer outputs are active at the same time.
2. Mention that for any analog input, selecting Direct mode bypasses all processing and EQ.
3. Mention that upon powering the unit off the power switch LED will blink (white?) 5 times. Again, these are not biggies but may help elucidate the functionality.

Can you make a connection diagram UMC-1 / USP-1? (stereo bypass)

Please list analog output impedance. Also mA rating for trigger outputs. For component mating.

Also mA rating for trigger outputs. For component mating. You mean printing it right on the back of the UMC isn't enough? (It's in the current manual as well) R

I highly recommend that the information that Lonnie presented in his video about Emo-Q be added. This section should even include his frequency spectrum sketches (maybe computer generated versions - not that Lonnie's weren't good enough). This should reduce the number of posts and calls addressing Emo-Q results. Another option someone mentioned was to start including a DVD with future shipments that include all of the UMC videos.

(It's in the current manual as well) R Well, I can't seem to find it in the manual, and I don't have a UMC-1 yet, so I didn't think to look on the back. No, printing it on the back isn't enough. If I'm looking for a new component and want to make sure it will play nice with my other components, I 'm not going to look on the back of the unit for information. I'm going to look in the manual under the specifications listing. Edit: okay I see it on the back diagram.

Printing some of this in a Technical addendum maybe more fitting and keep the front of the manual for basic setup I would like to see (not just the UMC-1 manual but all website pages too) specs where metric and imperial weights and measurements are listed too, and consistently too not 3 7/8ths in one place and 3.875" in another How to get the software version to display would be a good thing to have in there too. Date and version of the manual - so we can tell we have the latest -maybe should be in sync with the firmware version releases too Incidentally I checked out the Sherbourne 7020A manual and the firmware update is very sketchy for now but this would be a good place to perhaps compare notes on how things work or are written up - I am guessing but presume the base system operation will not be worlds apart if indeed the hardware is the same. The remote does have direct input selection tho, maybe the same codes might work for Harmony remotes - maybe the new emo remote will look the same too .

I would like to see a good explanation of the 12db/24db slope. At least I think that is what it is called. Not sure how it works, and what the difference really is in a real world setting.

I agree about the slope & acoustical EQ stuff from the videos.

Also please include that the volume control increments are 0 to 80 in 0.5 db steps...

Also please include that the volume control increments are 0 to 80 in 0.5 db steps... And note which value corresponds to reference level.

Also please include that the volume control increments are 0 to 80 in 0.5 db steps... And note which value corresponds to reference level. Which reference? This would vary per system based on components, speakers. This is why it's best to use a sound meter and calibrate to one's own liking. For example, not everyone would prefer 75dB. The nice thing about standards, there's so many to choose from! PS: Just realized this was my devilish post!
