Back in December I was talking to the great people at Emotiva about which amp I should purchase for my speaker system and they recommended either the UPA-5 or the UPA-7. I ordered the UPA-7 just before the sale ended and I received it on January 4th. . I hooked it up and was I blown away by how much better the speakers sounded with the UPA-7. I was very happy but then I started reading about more head room and more power, I should stop reading. So I with my speakers being 4 ohm and 89 % efficient just had to try the XPA-5. After a 4 week wait I received my new XPA-5 on 02-18-2010 apx. 1:30 PM took the beast down to the AV center and hooked it up waited a couple of hours for it to warm up to room temperature and then powered it up. To my surprise with my speakers I really could not really hear any difference between the UMC-7 and the XPA-5 they both sounded great. I watched Iron Man on Blue Ray played some rock CD’s some classical CD’s then watched Taken on Blue Ray. I ran both amps about as hard as would ever would want too and at normal levels, maybe I not tell any difference because in the Instruction Manual for the UPA-7 the amp I got was rated at 225 watts at 4 @ ohms and not 185 watts @ 4 ohms as listed on there web page (maybe old stock). All I can say is the advice the people Emotive gave me for my system was on the money and they makes some great amps, thanks guys. I aim very pleased with both amps and my son is going to be happy because he will get the UPA-7 for his birthday, now the wait for the UMC-1 to replace the Denon 4802 and maybe a XPA-2 next year.
