Switching channels sometimes results in a resolution change from 1080i->720p or the reverse. For example, switching from NBC to FOX. This is normal.
This has happened before installing the new firmware. And now I've had it happen twice in the last 20 minutes. Even with the new firmware. When the resolution switch on my SA8300HDC takes place, the UMC completely locks up! Blank TV screen, no sound, doesn't respond to any button presses on the remote. The UMC display stays to whatever it was, and the power button flashes with a button press, but nothing else happens. All I can do is hold the power button on the UMC for ~5sec until the thing turns off. This happened in Passthru mode and in 1080P 60hz. This is unacceptable! Even if an error exists in the HDMI signal, it should *not* result in a total crash of the receiver.
The UMC has a remote for a reason. I shouldn't have to get off the couch just because I'm channel surfing. I shouldn't have to set the cable box to upconvert everything to 1080i, either. The UMC is supposed to have this awesome video chipset, so I should be able to use it.
I really want to like the UMC. It sounds awesome when it's actually working, but lockups like this are just unacceptable. I don't see this being fixed without having another firmware update.
I may have to just send this back and go back to my Denon 2805, which I really rather not do.

Ackbar While I understand your frustration I have been doing a substantial amount of reading regarding the HDMI interface in general. I am not a UMC-1 owner but have been researching HDMI and how it works in general. Your Denon unit does not have HDMI correct? Looking at the online pics of the rear of this Denon unit it appears not to have HDMI. I assume you're connecting via component cables. While I am not defending either party (you or Emo) I think that there are some underlying handshaking issues going on with your system. That said i would not be so hasty to point to the UMC-1. There are PLENTY of handshaking issues going on with other brands of equipment and for some reason your components don't want to play nice. Sorry to hear your having issues. Big Dan posted on the boards recently (today I believe)and has asked any customers with issues to contact him @ dan@emotiva.com and he would assist as best he can. Explain the issue to Emo - they seem very eager to assist their clients! ;D

My primary issue is that the system should not crash to a halt. Handshaking issues are understandable. Having to switch inputs is not desired, but still can be worked with. When the system becomes completely unresponsive where I have to go to the UMC and manually turn it off, that's when it becomes unacceptable.
I was curious if anybody else had a similar issue.
However, I will be calling Emotiva, and I had not read Dan's post until after I had posted.

Ackbar while people sympathize with you having problems the best route is to contact Emotiva directly when they are open Monday. I dont see the point in creating a thread unless it is to ask if others had this problem rather than just make it sound like its a bad product. It could be that you happen to have one that is faulty but really go through the most effective channels first.
