getting umc-1 wednesday, need advise in setting up. Will be running hdmi from oppo bd-83 to hdmi 1 in umc-1. first of all should i set the hdmi audio on bd-83 to lpcm or auto or bitstreem next should i set the sacd output to pcm or dsd on the bd-83. Now what settings should should i set the umc-1 for bd-83. I'am confused on what equipment to let do the sound processing and what to use for the video, since both theses pieces are great.
thanks hal

As for what equipment to let do the sound and/or video processing, my advice when confronted with such choices is always to try the options you have at hand and decide if you like one better than the other. If you do, use that one.
That may sound like a "Mr. Obvious" answer and I don't mean it to. But, it has been all I have been able to rely on over the years. The specs don't always necessarily tell you which of 2 processors you will like the sound of better...and ditto for video.

I recently configured these two components together.
As far as SACD is concerned, the UMC-1 is not capable of processing a DSD bitstream. In other words, it must be set to PCM, otherwise, you will not hear any sound at all.
As far as the HDMI audio for Blu-Ray movies, I would probably lean toward setting that to bitstream and let the UMC-1 handle all of the audio processing. There shouldn't be too much difference either way, but that way does work well in the system I helped set up.

Not supporting DSD over HDMI is yet another limitation of the UMC/XMC platform. My appreciation of my current Pioneer VSX-LX70 processor is actually growing day by day and I believe I´ll end up passing on this generation of Emotiva processors. Best regards, Ole Willy Tuv
