I know there are other threads on this (so I apologize for adding yet another one) but my home theater components are not behind any doors. They're all exposed on the console. Since my UMC-1 is arriving next week, I figure now would be a good time to get a universal remote. In my home theater I have the UMC-1 (duh), Sony XBR7 hdtv, DirecTV HDDVR, XBOX360, and 2 PS3s (a launch and a slim). If you're wondering why I have two ps3s, it's because my launch 60gig model has crapped out playing ps3 games but still has no problem playing ps2 games or blurays (I guess it's just a glorified ps2 now lol). I've never had a universal remote before, so I'm not sure what to get. I'd prefer to keep the purchase under or around $100, so I don't see myself getting the Harmony 1100 . I don't particularly care if the remote works with the xbox. I just care that it works with my TV, UMC-1, DirecTV hddvr (a must), and one of the ps3s (since that's my bluray player). The Harmony One looks nice, but it may be out of my price range. Maybe I can find a cheap deal on it on ebay or something. Any advice on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I got an acoustic research X-Sight touch from ebay a couple of weeks ago for $120. It's an awesome remote! I was able to program it using their online software in about 15 minutes , including setting up activities and favorite channels. Its an RF remote and best of all it controls Direct TV receivers natively in RF!! FWIW it is currently programmed for my UMC-1, Mitsubishi HC4900, Samsung 1590, Toshiba X-A2 , HR21-700 , and XBOX 360. The only thing you mentioned that I don't know how it would handle is the PS3 .. as I dont know if there is a generic converter to handle the way it receives remote commands ie "bluetooth".

There is nothing in the world of remotes that can compete with the Harmony in the $200-$400 range. The Harmony isn't spot on perfect but I don't really think that anything is in it's price range.
BTW... Logitec does have an adapter for the PS3.

I might consider it if I don't like using the MX-600 for our DirecTV box. It's too bad the RF extender is $100 more at retail. Some of the smaller buttons almost look recessed in the photos. Are they easy to press and find without looking? Thanks, - LoopinFool

The buttons are all fairly easy to find by touch except for maybe the mute and last channel buttons. I got the RF extender for $79 at BB , so I figure for $200 total I have a remote setup that would take me almost $400 to match from Harmony ( Harmony 900 and extender ) and the Harmony doesn't control Direct Tv via RF. Don't get me wrong.... I had the Harmony 880 and it was a good remote, it's just that I have watched the prices of each new model of Harmony increase to the point where you have to ask yourself are they starting to become the Mon$ter of the remote world?

Does this remote allow direct input of the hex codes? How does the programming work?
