Had my XPA-3 for less than one day. I doubt my situation is normal, but thought it was only fair to post my experience. Ran it for less than one minute, then decide to run each channel independantly. Flipped power back on, and internal fireworks.

Nice to have all kind of reviews if you ask me. Hope it works out for you. Emotiva gives good service as far as I can see/heard/experienced.

Wow! I'm confident they will take care of you. Keep us posted BTW...how exactly did you run each channel independant? Turned off main power. Disconnected speaker cables from binding posts on back of XPA-3 on channel 1 and 2. Turned on main power on XPA-3. Pressed power button on front of XPA-3. Then watched as channel 1 circuit board started to spark.

Hi Kraddy,
I am really sorry about your experience with the XPA-3. I know this is not what anyone will expect after receiving your new amplifier but sometimes these things happen.
I have been dealing with Emotiva for a few years now and their customer service is the best I have experience in a long time. Just call them tomorrow and they will send you another XPA-3. They wil do the right thing for you.
So please do not despair everything will be taken care of.
Keep us posted,
Best regards,
Carlos

Kraddy,
When I got my XPA-3, it became apparent that the center channel was DOA. I called the office for help and Nick suggested a few things to check. When that didn't work out, I let them know and a replacement went out that same day. They thoughtfully included the call tag for the old one in the shipping documents on the new box.
I attached it to the old box and away it went - no fuss, no muss and no hauling a heavyweight to the nearest Fedex depot.
The measure of a company is how they treat you when there is a problem and I certainly have every expectation that you will be as satisfied as I am.
Cheers.

Just to update, I am still waiting for part to be shipped to me.
Spoke with Emotiva rep back in early April, and apparently they are waiting for part to come in themselves from China.
So heres hoping I get this thing going before I die.

You haven't really explained what emotiva's decision was in your case. Why are they sending you the part instead of fixing it for you under warranty? Did you crank the single channel when you hooked it up? Were you found to be to blame for abusing the amp?
It's been advised that emotiva multi-channel amps are designed to be run with all channels, or at least most of the channels, not just one or two. This is because the power supply is too much for just one channel to handle and it will provide too much voltage. Did they inform you of this?

I was advised there is no problem running one channel at a time.
Emotiva is shipping me parts rather than having me ship unit back for repair in order to keep shipping costs low. (I am from Canada.)
I just received word yesterday that the part is being shipped.

Interesting, I've read around here that you shouldn't run a 5 channel amp exclusively on 2 channels for instance, although it would certainly depend on volume levels.
At any rate it would suck to be looking at your xpa-3 day after day and not being able to use it. I hope it turns out well for you.

The only real issue is that since it is a shared power supply, if you are running less than all channels, the power supply and rails certainly can provide extra juice to the 1 or 2 channels in use. The problem is that the rest of the components downstream from the power supply aren't necessarily spec'ed to handle that extra juice, potentially lessening the lifespan of the amp. It would require some serious volume though if everything is working properly. It certainly shouldn't blow up like every car in an action movie.

Well, it's time for an update. Got new board, took to repair shop, paid another $125 to have it installed. Tech tested it, and had more "sparks". So, another call to Vincent Chen @ Emotiva, and another $123 to ship back FedEx for repair. Two months go by with no communication, until I make another call to Vincent to inquire on the status of my amp. He explains some issues with the unit their techs found, said they will get it shipped out to me soon. And here I wait, hoping it arrives before 12 months passes since I first purchased the thing. And can't wait to pay another hundred or so for shipping!!!

If it has been here for 2 months I apologize as this should have never happened and is not how we do business. I will follow up on this first thing tomorrow.

Last update.
Matter is closed. Emotiva shipped out my repaired XPA-3 amplifier.
I must commend them on paying the shipping back to me (even though I am from Canada) due to all the time it took for repair.
Amplifier is working fine, and my A/V receiver is happy to not have such a big draw on it anymore!

Thats awesome! I am glad to see that your issue has been resolved. It was also REALLY cool of Emotiva to absorb the cost of the shipping to Canada. Thanks for the updates and posting the final (happy) conclusion as well. It's good to see the follow through efforts like that. Take care and enjoy your amp.
