UMC-1 decision

My eta for UMC-1 is 19 April 2010. Hope the bugs will all be addresed by then. Two major decision criteria:-

1) compatiability with my HTPC with ASUS Xonar HDAV 1.3 sound card (HDMI handshaking issues).

2) Most users gave good reference on 2 channel music, but my prime concern will be soley on HD surround sound quality since I have separate gears for 2 channel music.

Any comments to the above two will be greaty appreciated.

I guess the question is what the EDID revision is on your sound card for starters................Im no expert in this field, so maybe someone else will chime in.

And second, I dont think there is any concern with sound quality for HT with this unit. My UMC-1 will be at my doorstep on Wed. so Ill be directly comparing it to a few high end Onkyo AVR's and their 886 pre/pro which is a very good quality upper tier pre/pro.

Personally, and just speculating of course, I think if your going to use the DACs on the UMC-1 for HT is that it will be just fine. One reason why Im picking it up is because its ability to really fine tune xover and eq points with individual speakers. Ill also be using its DACs for HT decoding as well and I dont see any reason why it won't do a fine job for this either. FOr music listening though Ill most likely be using off board DACs with the source.

My only big concern is the HDMI hub, I hope it has no "handshake issues" when it comes to 24 frame content. As for auto tune and legacy video input bugs or issues, I could care less if its buggy or not since Ill only be using HDMI inputs and possibly one set of L/R rca inputs for my 2 channel redbook player.

Overall it should work out fine for my minimal needs.......I'll know Wed.

The sound quality of HD in 5.1 is so good that I'm thinking about going back to a 5.1 system and selling my rear 2nd set or
ERD-1's.

ntrain, I look forward to your comparo. I've been debating on taking delivery of the UMC when my turn comes up April 15th. I'm enjoying my Integra DHC-9.9 pre/pro and just ordered balanced cables to go to the xpa5. I'd like to hear your thoughts between the UMC1 and the 886 Onkyo.
