SS-6 Speaker Stand Question

So, I just received an SS-6 speaker stand in the mail. It appears I misunderstood its functionality... I thought the shelf would attached to the wall. However, it seems that this is not the case. Can someone confirm for me? Anyone found a way to mount this to a wall in order to hold a 6.3 center?

I can confirm that it is just a stand intended to angle the center. It will not attach to a wall.

The SS-6 is designed to sit on a flat surface. I jerry-rigged mine to sit on a shallow mantel.

IMO, you would need to jerry-rig a shelf attached to the wall that the SS-6 would sit on. One suggestion would be to attached a 1" thick shelf to the wall that would stick out about 9" by 20" wide (this would be anchored to the wall at the 16" studs with supports ..... it could be painted flat black or the wall color). The size of the 6.3 speaker, 9.5" deep and 26" wide would pretty much cover the underlying shelf and from view straight on or from above. Put a small pieces of the non-skid shelf liner under the 4 standoffs. ;D

Is there any advantage to using the SS-6 in conjunction with a shelf like this?

On a somewhat related topic... at what point should the center channel be angled up? For example, if I position the center such that the tweeter is even with the tweeter of the FR and FL (at ear level), can I assume that I would not angle the center up or down? What if the center channel tweeter is 3" below the FR/FL tweeter, then would I want to angle it up? 6"? 12"?

In many HT systems the center channel speaker's tweeter is not at the same height as the tweeters in the L&R speakers. With systems where the center channel is below or above the display, a significant slope angle either up or down might be required. That is the reason for the SS-6 stand. In my system the angle was little too much so I used a shim to attain the correct angle. The idea is to aim the tweeters of all three front speakers, LCR, directly at the ears of the listener.

It sounds like the shelf should be fine for your purposes without the SS-6. Be sure you mount it strongly to support the weight of the 6.3. You might want to place isolation feet or a pad between the shelf and the speaker.

Having the center speaker right up against the wall is not ideal sound wise, but that is the reason the Emo 6.3 includes the boundary switch.
