Not sure where to ask this so here we go. I have Direct TV, and do not want to upgrade my box to an HD box and they rent it for whatever a month. Anyway to get the signal from the Direct TV box run RCA cables to some sort of video converter where it converts the signal to HD then run Component or HDMI from a video converter box to the TV?
Does such a video device exist

Dyohn,
Thanks for the reply. However The UMC-1 will be going in my HT room, was looking for something in the Kids room to get them an HD picture. Its a shame to have an HD TV and not get the most out of the TV. When he plays xbox on his TV using HDMI.
Do you know of a cheap stand alone video processor that upscales to 1080 or even 720?

Depends on what is "cheap" to you. The DVDo Edge is very good at about $600. ViewSonic makes a product called the NextVision N6 that looks like it might work for you. I've never used one but for under $200 it might be worth trying.

Of course if you're considering the DVDO Edge video processor, you might as well opt for the UMC-1 for another $99 and get a great audio and video processor!
