I'm intrigued by the announcement in the podcast of an XPR-2. 2 x 500W. Wonder how it is going to compare to the XPA-1. I thought I heard the XPR series would be Emo's flagship series, so I am very curious to hear more about what makes these amps so special...
Mark.

I'm expecting it to be pretty darn special. They did say the XPR amps will be the new flagship, and I think the pricing will reflect that as well. But for what we are getting, those prices are pretty exceptional. I was going to go ahead and buy some of what they offer now, but it sounds like these will be well worth waiting for, and worth the extra money for sure. An XMC-1 with XPR amps? Mmmmmmmmm, yummy.

These will be for real powered hungry speakers. ...And for people that don't have too many A/C power wall outlets in their rooms; like when using several mono blocks (5, 7, or even 9!).

I'm really interested in hearing one of these when they come out as well. I'm assuming all of the XPR series will be class H like the XPR-7 will be. Sort of the updated rebirth of the RPA and MPS amps.

I know, and I have. I borrowed my Father's old 7 watt tube amp kit, that he put together 30 years ago, and my speakers have never sounded better.

I'm surprised more people aren't talking more about these new XPR amps. I know the 7 has been discussed for a while, but I just figured the podcast would have generated far more interest in these. Especially since they are replacing what most consider to be the best amps that Emo has made, being the H class design amps. I'm still kicking myself for not buying an MPS, or RPA when they were still going.

I believe Big Dan said the XPR 2 was 500 into 4 ohms where the XPA 1 is 500 into 8. Hopefully that gain will be simmered down. ;D

Unless this is going to be a true dual monoblock design into one chassis...............maybe fully balanced like the XPA-1's........

That is what I suspect; truly fully Balanced. ...With separate power transformers per channel?

It seems like it's going to be pretty similar to the MPS and RPA amps. So wouldn't that mean monoblock design into one chassis, with separate transformers per channel? I need to look at the retired gear to see if that's what they were. If that's the case, then I'm all for it.

It will indeed be interesting to see how the XPR-2 compares to the XPA-2 and XPA-1, especially considering it should be priced somewhere between the cost of the XPA-2 and a pair of XPA-1s (based on the pricing model mentioned in the podcast)...
Also since it is 500 Watts at 4 ohms, then that means it will have the same power as the XPA-2... So clearly the price increase is all about quality and not additional power...
It also makes me wonder if an XPR-1 is on the cards as an upgrade from the XPA-1....

I'm a fan of additional quality as opposed to additional power. I'm using an RPA-2 for a reason. Mark.

I'm a fan of additional quality as opposed to additional power. I'm using an RPA-2 for a reason. Mark. At 30 watts @ 8 ohms and 50 watts @ 4 ohms, one could see the need for more power instead of additional quality... but at 300 watts @ 8 ohms and 500 watts @ 4 ohms (XPA-2) it is very unlikely that you would ever need more power (no offence to the XPA-1 owners), so I think that a higher quality amp (XPR-2, hopefully) is a good upgrade option...

Hopefully too the power button won't light up like a christmas tree. I add my vote for a slightly lower gain.
