This is very disappointing to me. I have been on the pre-order list for a long time and I was looking forward to the replacement for my lmc-1. I wanted the extra inputs the xmc had over the umc and the headphone jack and would have liked the option of using a turntable. I also don't like the flashy UFO style faceplate with the myriad of blue bottons. I love the simplistic but very elegant design of the lmc. I will have to see how things shake out but will have to read up on the umc issues to see if I should go that route instead. Yes, we are almost the same. I have been on the waiting list a long time too, close to two years I think (The joined date below my avatar is incorrect and I have over 3000 posts, not as many as LOTR, nobody but nobody has that many posts as LOTR, even 25 year members of the Emo Lounge!). I also passed on the UMC-1 and various competitors' products to wait for the XMC-1 with phono preamp and headphone jack plus other added features. Bborzell's comment that: "..........Discussing positive and negative attributes of something that does not exist is senseless........." is not valid IMO. We are discussing proposed features that Emotiva themselves have said were possible/probable as upgrades to the UMC-1 They have encouraged members to comment with their opinions on which features they like or dislike. They in fact have apparently eliminated the phono preamp, for example, because in their words it didn't seem to have enough support. Those of us who politely expressed our opinion or simply decided to wait for the proposed features, are now disappointed that we were not more expressive. It is obvious that Emo reads the posts about features of their future products and like with the XMC-1 makes changes based on member input. Synmag stated: "..........I also don't like the flashy UFO style faceplate with the myriad of blue bottons..........." I suppose he believes the commonly held misconceived BS about Emotiva's components being made in China, shipped via ocean freighter to the USA and then trucked to Franklin, Tennessee. I can assure you based on my professional knowledge and academic qualifications, that this is simply not earthly possible. Even the Chinese can't make such excellent components for such cheap prices, come back down to earth. (Please see my scholarly scientific credentials listed below my avatar). Here is a photo taken by one of my colleagues of an unidentified flying object on the outskirts of Franklin, the very night before Emotiva announced that a large inventory of the XPA-5 amp was once again in stock. (Do the UFO style blue lights ring a bell in your thick neurological center ... the one between your ears?)

Well...looks like I may have a new option Denon just posted up some new products in the last few days and in there is this! www.usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/5414.aspIt has 9.2 amplified outputs, but if you look at the pre-outs it supports 11.2 pre-outs. That's a new high for that price range. In a few months I may be able to get it for closer to 1500 bucks as well.

And it presumably has the "new" feature that you can actually turn off any amps you don't want to use rather than having them burning power/adding noise.
I'm very tempted.

I heard that the XMC-2 will do 13.3-channel! ...And without the amps running!

Yes it looks to be a class leading piece for sure.

But your preamp doesn't have 11.2 capabilities.

You know, if I was outfitting a cinema I might have need for a gazillion audio outputs but I don't have that big of space. But do we really need 9, 11 or 13 speakers in a room of normal size? At what point does it become overkill?
I dunno, just me.

over kill is good but waste is bad. I'd hate to pay that much money and then not use the internal amps. I know it's "ONLY" 7.1 channels but I would consider this: www.rotel.com/NA/products/index.htm?cat=25Heck I'm only running 5.1 as I have no space for 7 speakers.

Again, legacy inputs and outputs, albeit less than the Denon, but still no headphone or phono, and I agree about spending money on an amplifier section that you don't plan to use. Come on Emo, how bout some legacies???
