Just got my Revel F12's today and holy &*^% they're freaking amazing. But my Carver M 1.0t MK II crapped out on me and I need a new amp for the fronts. Note: The carver went bad before i got the speakers. I'm using a different Carver amp right now for the Revel's The dealer i got them from told me to not exceed 200 watts. Will a XPA-2 be to much, since it's rated at 300? I have a pair of F12s that until recently had been my main speakers, I bought a full Mirage setup in August so the Revels are relegated to stand-by. The F12s were powered by UPA-1s and before that a pair of Parasound 2125s each bridged mono (400wpc output), I like very loud music of the metal variety \m/ I don't know how many watts I pushed into the F12s but they could have surely taken a lot more with ease but my head would have exploded. You will have no issues with a pair of UPA-1s. Enjoy!

I'm currently using 12awg from Infinite cables. Located in Markham, Ontario ;D ;D
Very cheap high quality cables. Heard of them?
Years ago i was using 18awg on a Sunfire TGR-3 (no longer have) and thought it sounded great but as soon as i hooked up the Infinite cables it was like night and day. Way more power was sent to the speakers and the dynamic range was amazing.

kraemerkid2119, The UPA-1s have Dual output terminals for bi-wiring. I've not heard a difference in my setup but you might. I laso agree with a lot of what ntrain42 says, I own a pair of DALI Ikon speakers which has a leaning towards promoting the higher frequencies and the UPA-1s smooth that out nicely. Also the extra wattage from the XPA-2 is never really going to be used. However due to the differences in design between the XPA-2 and UPA-1 the XPA-2 might exercise better control over your speakers.

I don't recall no, and I'm quite familiar with all type of Canadian shlt! Markham is where everything's coming from (most of it anyway). Anywhoo, you are perfectly in the bull's eye with your 12AWG speaker cables. * Now, the only remaining thing to do for you is to order a pair of monoblock UPA-1s. ...That's it man!

And that would be more towards the bass, and at the expense of the nice mids and highs of his F12s, with their great audio resolution and spacious and smooth details. If he wants true guts with finesse, he'll go with a pair of UPA-1s. If he wants raw power at coliseum volume levels, he'll get a pair of XPA-1s. * But like his Audio dealer's smart advice, the UPA-1s are the perfect match for his F12s. They have all the power requirement, no more no less, and they have that extra sharp edge that errs on souplesse and finesse and definition all at the same time.

A light bulb just turned on in my head The XPA-2 weighs 75lbs and my shelf might not be able to handle the extra weight. 2 UPA-1's weigh in at 52 so another reason to go with the mono's instead of the XPA-2. Nothing wrong with more cool blue lights ;D ;D ;D You guys are so helpful

LOL, silly as it may seem I also hated the thought of lugging the XPA-2 around.

UPA-1's would be great, but a XPA-2 would really make them come to life - plus you would have a bit more headroom. To be honest, any of the emo amps will sound great. F-12's have a pretty high efficiency rating (90.5) db so your choices are many. You might want to go for a multi channel as you plan for the future as well. It won't hurt to have a few channels resting until they are needed. :-)

At first i was concidering the XPA-2 but some post saying it might be a little much and the fact that it weighs 75lbs. Which my stand might not be able to handle the extra pounds on that shelf. BUT i looked at numerous user submitted reviews on the XPA-2 and wow people really like the extra headroom and I'm sure i would love it too. Checking the website for my tv stand last night it said 100 pounds per shelf but i stood on that shelf this morning and i weigh in at 180 so don't think weight will be a problem. Plus the UPA-1's aren't ready for deleiver until 11/24 and the XPA-2 is ready for shipment now ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Ed, Do you think i will regret getting that extra power?

Son, You can never be too rich, too skinny or have too much amp :-) Big power means you speakers come to life with nuance and detail. Plus it will never harm your speakers - too little will because lack of power creates distortion and heat which is bad. Plus at some point down the road if you want to move to Maggies or Martin Logans or anything that is difficult to drive, you will be sitting pretty with all the watts you need. Big power is king
