I've yet to have a single person, after watching a movie on a 128" 2.35:1 screen, walk out and say "Man, if only it was in 3D!"
Just sayin..
That said, I'm happy that Emo is keeping pace with the current feature sets.

So weird that they would mention it in the email... and not announce details on the forum. They had to know this would drive us nuts. I do think its a good move to mention it when heavily discounting so that purchasers would not be upset if they bought it and then a 3D version came out shortly thereafter. Personally I like 3D but only occasionally and usually in video games on PS3 and not movies so I would like to add it to my UMC.. but for now I use optical and HDMI to the TV so that I have the option of 3D.

So what about upgrades for the early adopters from UMC-1 to 3d UMC-1 then...is that something applicable to ALL UMC-1 owners or just the run out specials @ 499

To be more precise, "HDMI Version 1.4a" is the necessity. For my money that also includes the Audio Return Channel and some CEC. Does anyone know if the updated UMC will have either of those? CEC is ok as long as all of the components in your room talks CEC. A good universal remote control allows for all this and more (delays, macros etc.). Most TVs still have anemic speakers and little bass output. So Audio Return Channel would be if interest so the HT system can be used for TV audio, especially for surround sound. We'll find out at Emofest if the new UMC-1 will have these features.I'm sure it will.

Hemster, when are you going back for another business trip oversea? Hmm, I never know! It's usually last minute. Have been home for a while now, so I guess it's overdue.

So we will be able to upgrade existing units for $199... I would do that but I am sure the shipping from europe is astronomical (I bought in the US but moved to Europe). Guess I will have to wait and see the details when the time comes to see how much it would cost to ship etc from Europe.
Dan's post says all known issues will be addressed with next firmware. I can't wait!!!!

heres my favorite area in the topic
3. We are preparing a major SW update for the UMC-1! This update will address all known and reported bugs that we have been able to document to date. We have been working very diligently for several months to verify and confirm all issues discovered internally and reported to us. Where we have verified a problem, we have worked to address it and correct it.
3d just doesnt water the mouth like fixed bugs do!

OK so i'll eat some crow for thinking that us early adopters might be left out in the cold.
Thanks big Dan for staying classy (...SanDiego...)

I'm surprised no one has said anything about the "true hardware HDMI bypass mode" or the fact that EmoFest attendees will get to see the XMC-1. A true hardware HDMI bypass to me is definitely a huge feature. I will easily send my unit in for the 3D upgrade as this feature is well worth it to me. Thank you Big Dan.
