On 2nd of May I got a reply from Emotiva about a problem I have with the UMC-200 and was told the update would be released in about 3 weeks. So in about one week from now it might be released.

Just what will have we have to talk about now Keith?! How the update went, the processes involved, what issues were covered and hopefully how successful it was. As a rule I don't do updates until I can benefit from the experiences of others. Especially when they have a time zone and geographical advantage, as is this case. Cheers Gary

Cheers Gary Gary, my post was in jest, just a wee bit of humor! I look forward to discussing how the update process worked for me and the several minor but necessary issues that have been fixed.

I wonder if we will get email notices or the 'fix' will just show up under the 'Help-Resources' section.

Hello everyone - This is my first post. I have been looking to upgrade from my older Denon receiver (no hdmi), and decided on a UMC-200 / UPA-700 combo. (I already have a 2-channel amp for the front mains, but I can use the extra two chs for Zone 2 on my deck.) The UMC-200 looks like a terrific product, and has exactly the feature set that I need. However, I have been holding off because of the delay with the software update. I have been burned too many times by other companies that release otherwise promising products that are plagued by too many software quirks and glitches, that the company promises to fix, but never actually does for whatever reason. (e.g., my GPS, my DVR, and my car receiver) So, I'm thrilled that the update will be released tomorrow; I just hope that it's not like my favorite bar that has a sign promising "Free Beer Tomorrow". Also, I just checked and the UPA-700, which was $449 earlier this week, is now $499. Noooooooo!!!!!! %$%#$%&! I didn't realize that it was on sale; I thought that $449 was the "new lower price". So, I guess I will wait to hear the user reviews of the new firmware and for the UPA-700 to go back on sale.

So, I guess I will wait to hear the user reviews of the new firmware and for the UPA-700 to go back on sale. I don't really have any problems with the day to day use of my UMC-200. It works perfectly and sounds fantastic. So I wouldn't be holding out for "perfect" firmware, which in the era of HDMI and HDCP is unobtainable anyway. You are aware that the current $599 price for the UMC-200 may not be a forever price, it may at some time revert to the $699 price. So while waiting to save $50 on the UPA-700 you might end up spending $100 extra on the UMC-200. Cheers Gary

Why is it that Emotiva continually fails to deliver on their promises? This isn't hard. Just don't make delivery promises that you can't keep. Or, said differently, if you don't have 100% confidence in your ability to deliver anything (hardware, firmware, etc.) on-schedule, don't announce any schedule. I think Emotiva is a very good company. If they learn this lesson, they would be a great company.
