Now back to my Microsoft update... no sign of support staff on their forums... and the outsourced "help" recommended upgrading to a new OS (Windoze 8!) on a laptop that's only 4 months old! Hemster, No offense but how is Microsoft FW issues relative to FW loading issues with an audio component such as the UMC-200? Bill Both are software updates. Windows Update keeps finding critical updates that fail with obscure codes... If anything, this should be easier than firmware updates.. I have 2 other Windows 7 machines that the update worked on without any issues... go figure...

The answer is sort of a matter of context.... Things get "blown out of context" because a lot of folks have been waiting patiently for this update, and they all rushed to download and install it today when it was released, so this is not "a piece in the average day of a typical UMC-200 owner". The fact is that we hope that doing updates will NOT become a major part of the lives of most of our customers who own a UMC-200. Hopefully, they'll enjoy many hundreds or thousands of hours watching and listening to stuff through it, and, at most, an hour or so in there somewhere doing the occasional update. You also don't get to see comments from most of the people who did (or will) download the update and install it without a problem - because a lot of them won't be here to post about such a mundane and trivial experience I too own a few components that handle the update process more smoothly than the UMC-200, and several others that are totally incapable of being updated at all, or that require a trip to the factory every time you want to update them (so they usually don't get updated - even when they should). In that regard, I would say the update process for the UMC-200 is "about average".... but, as our customers know, our support for them and our products is way above average. (And, of course, the performance of the UMC-200 itself is way above average for units anywhere near its price range.) We certainly don't object to anybody voicing an opinion - whether they own one of our products or not - but your comment feels a bit like how it would feel if I were to go on a Toyota forum the day after they had a recall and comment (negatively) on how well they handled it (note that I drive a Nissan). Hey, if you order a UMC-200 tomorrow, it'll ship with this update already installed, and you won't have to worry about it ;D:) It never ceases to amaze me how people always have things to say about the upgrade process including "I didn't actually try it.. oh wait... I don't even own a UMC-200!" Hemster, No I do not own the UMC-200. But why is it a problem if people that do not own the UMC-200 voice their opinion? I look at the issues that people are having with the new FW of the UMC-200 and it is a cause for concern as a possible buyer of the UMC-200. As I said earlier two components that I have work much easier than the process I see for the UMC-200's FW update. If this will be the norm then I do not want to deal with problems when trying to update the FW if I buy the UMC-200. I'm not well versed with computers so I could see it being an issue for myself. Maybe for others well versed with computers it will not be an issue. Bill

Was stuck in an endless loading...... on step 4 (failed) Used Denist method and worked, UMC200 loads fine with new software version. Thanks!

I will close my part in this discussion with an interesting suggestion.... Please Google the two products you have which have "a much better upgrade process" along with words like "bug", and "problem", and see if they are really as problem free as you believe... Although, if they were truly problem free, then I guess they wouldn't need updates at all, right? Incidentally, we are working on a firmware update system which allows firmware updates to be installed from a USB stick plugged directly into the unit - without a computer. We expect to have that finished in time for the XMC-1. [Even better, if you buy a UMC-200, you'll get 25% off on the XMC-1 when we release it.] It never ceases to amaze me how people always have things to say about the upgrade process including "I didn't actually try it.. oh wait... I don't even own a UMC-200!" Hemster, No I do not own the UMC-200. But why is it a problem if people that do not own the UMC-200 voice their opinion? When will a change log be released? I don´t see the point in installing an update without knowing what it will actually do...

PLEASE HELP
I have reflashed at least 10 times using by the book and other peoples methods. I get a successful on all 4 modules.
I keep getting DSP MISMATCH every time I boot up! How do I fix this? When I flash all is successful. It seems to be playing ok but have not tried all the options.
Can someone please help, How do I get rid of that DSP mismatch error?
CC
PS - I see others have the same problem..........KEITH............

Wow, shades of doing the *extremely* onerous UMC-1 update process. I thought for sure by now Emo would have come up with a process that doesn't require so many many steps and seems to be fraught with errors.
Here's a hint: hire a couple of the guys who write the update procedures for Oppo and put this nonsense behind you...

Thanks to the post below this fixed my problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Denist method as follows These are the steps I took
1:Power off umc from the back
2:Unplug USB cable only from PC
3:Run twe program on your PC
4: Find upgrade file and click re program and select all files and hit start
5:A box saying USB comes up with all kind of glibberists
6:Power on umc from the back but Leave it on amber
7:Plug USB cable in the PC and power on umc 200
8:then the USB box disappears and it start loading on the 4Th file
9:And then loads the rest from top 1,2,3
10: make sure all files indicates successfull.
11:don't forget load defaults instructions at the end.
12: you're done
Many thanks to DENIST, actually I believe the pdf should use his method Mel
I tried several different ways to load this firmware, kept ending up with "dsp" and "osd flash" errors and/or mismatch.
Yes, I did it as Keith says "EXACTLY AS WE INSTRUCTED YOU" several times with the same result (errors and mismatch) from 2 different computers, although they are both running Windows 7 64 bit.
Used the above method and no more errors. Further testing will have to wait until tomorrow.
THANK YOU DENIST!

I thought I'll post my experience with the update process. I can start by saying that it did not work when following the instructions from Emotiva.
I followed the guide to the letter, but the update failed at the first step. What happened was this: On the first file the percentage got to 100%, then the bar disappeared and in the bottom 3rd box of the software said restart, then waiting for CPU to start and after about 15-20 seconds it quickly flashed write again in the 1st box on the bottom, then successful behind the selected file. The blue status bar show about 15% completion, while saying 100% behind the blue status bar. The UMC-200 only showed update main CPU in the front panel. It did not restart when the software said restarting. After quiting the software and turning off the Unit (With the main switch) and following the procedure, the UMC get stuck at loading.....
I then followed Keith's advice to start with the 4th file and pushing start before turning on the UMC. This worked and it flashed the file. I then tried the 1st again, but the same problem as before. I tried some different combinations, but none worked. I tried on both Win 7 64 bit and Win XP both normal and safe mode. Also tried different USB cables. I then re-read Keith's post and read the quote with how denist did it. That one worked perfectly! That one involves choosing all the files, not flashing one by one. It starts with the 4th file, then restarts (Without error messages) then flashes the 3 other files one by one. The first file goes quickly, 2nd & 3rd goes slower and takes about the time mentioned in the guide. The front panel on the UMC did not show upgrade main CPU then.
This was the method that worked for me:
1: Power off umc from the back.
2: Unplug USB cable only from PC.
3: Run twe program on your PC.
4: Find upgrade file and click re-program and select all files and hit start.
5: A box saying USB comes up with all kind of glibberists.
6: Power on umc from the back but Leave it on amber.
7: Plug USB cable in the PC and power on umc 200.
8: Then the USB box disappears and it start loading on the 4Th file.
9: And then loads the rest from top 1,2,3.
10: Make sure all files indicates successfull.
11: Don't forget load defaults instructions at the end.
12: You're done.
I have to say that this method was worse than the update on my UMC-1. If it is so hard to make a software that works the same way on most computers, I would have to say that updating with USB stick would be a better option, since there are less variables that can cause errors.
A list of bugfixes would also be welcomed.

Because I am a masochist I will try yet again to load the firmware after spending several unproductive hours last night. I get 4 successful loads, followed by OSD and DSP mismatch errors at the end. I'm a little unclear on what to to after the firmware loads, and the PDF is not clear, to,say the least. Do I unhook the USB cable immediately after the update and power of the UMC from the back, then turn it back on and load defaults? Or do I load defaults immediately after the firmware update. I believe I have tried it both ways and the result is the various errors displayed. I am hoping someone will be around EMO HQ this weekend to walk some frustrated customers through this.

I also did the firmware update but unfortunately the instructions provided did not work for me as well (stuck in endless "Loading..."). However, the instructions provided by another members (Denist & Mel) works perfectly and really is quite simple to follow. Follow it exactly. Key difference from the official instruction is all 4 modules are check at once and will install from module 4 then 1,2,3 without restarting. Also note, this method works after failed attempts from using Emotiva's instruction. It may or may not work starting this way, someone can verify this. Many thanks to Denist and Mel. EDIT: I was using Windows XP on netbook pc. It was fun bringing that one back to life (last used almost 2 years ago) since my current PC has windows 8 and don't wanna try the Mac.

A list of bugfixes would also be welcomed. I would also like to see this. So far, one thing I noticed on the new firmware is the pulsing the amp on and off is still not fixed. Which means I still need to keep the "Stand by Video" to ON to prevent this every time I turn the unit on.

Running Windows XP, I followed The PDF instructions as written, had no issues. The latest version installed after resetting defaults. Settings only on flat, currently. I will rerun Emo-2 later today, and post my impressions. Important to take your time, and be patient. I did not skip any steps. Maybe those with Windows 8 or MAC should wait until those systems are confirmed.

But still didn't work properly using Keith's instruction until I followed Denist/Mel's method to the letter in page 5 of this thread. Try that and see how it works.
